[Not long after the assembly...]

[Becca has a PDA with video function now, but she's had that for a little bit. That's not the important thing. She tosses it onto her bed and it turns on accidentally. She sits down with a memory charm, which she puts on eagerly. Almost immediately, her eyes go wide, and she tips over onto the bed, drawing her knees to her chest. She cries out in fear and remembered pain, shuddering horribly as tears fall from her eyes.]

[WARNING: Becca just got back a memory involving a physically abusive childhood. While she won't dump this on just anyone who responds, there is a good chance it might come up at least in passing. [Alex knew what was coming and he couldn't deal with that right now. He didn't know how he felt about her, he liked her, but did he really like her, love her? He couldn't figure that out right know, and not knowing that, how could he possibly respond to Becca telling him she did. He looks to his wrist realizing there's no watch on it as he says,] O-oh, G-God, look a-at that wrist! [He stands, laughing nervously.] I h-have to go... go f-feed... feed m-my computer! Right!

[He rushes to the door but stops, staring at the door.] I-It's not that I d-don' l-like-like you, but, I d-don't know how to... w-well, feelings... I c-can't figure th-this out s-so fast.
[He smiles reassuringly, without actually totally turning around or making eye-contact with Becca before leaving. He actually didn't go far, just rounding the corner and sitting down to collect himself.]

[The moment he starts freaking out, she regrets even trying to explain. She presses her eyes shut, just letting him blabber about what he needs to. She can feel the tears welling, and she fights hard against them. When he finally admits that he just can't figure it out, she nods her head absently, making a noncommittal noise as he leaves. Then she returns to her bed, gathers his sweatshirt in her arms, and starts sobbing.]

Don't say that. [Shion finally found his voice, he pulled back only so that he could look her in the eye.] It's her fault, you shouldn't be hurt...

This doesn't happen to normal people...

[Shion blinked] I think we left normal behind a long time ago... [He hugged her again] She should not have hurt you, I'm sorry she did...

[She snuggles into his arms, feeling more at ease there.]

I'll...get over it...

[And now she was swearing of Sake for life. If it makes people evil when they have it, She wanted no part of that!]

Is there no way to turn her back..? Beat the evil?

[Shion shook his head] I don't think it's a thing you can just get over, or should... I don't know... But it's okay to be sad...

...You're a good friend, Shion...

I don't think so. Maybe if I could make her stop drinking, but...she's been drinking for almost fourteen years...

So are you. [He hugged her again]

[ A short while later, there's a knock on the dorm door. She pokes her head in. ]

Is it okay for me to come in?

Yeah, I'm here.

[ She enters, and sits on the edge of the bed gingerly. ]

I've got lots of stories, if you want to hear them.

Nothing...with evil stepmothers...

[The thought alone sends a shiver down her spine.]

I'll tell you one about a good queen, then. She's my favorite.

[ Steering away from evil stepmothers: check. Jade doesn't even think she knows any of those. ]

She lives in a giant, bright castle made of gold. And every day, she walks through the city that her castle is in, talking to everybody. Some of her guards think that's silly, and she may get hurt. But she doesn't care; she likes to make people happy. That's what she's good at. That, and protecting the two heroes who are asleep on her planet! The heroes were supposed to wake up one day, and the good queen kept them safe while they were sleeping.

[Becca's hand starts moving absently, as if she's trying to draw the queen in her bedsheets.]

She sounds like a good person...

Oh...But if there is a will there is a way...right? Maybe...?

I wish.

She is. She's never done anything bad. In fact, she's made sure that no bad people will ever hurt her subjects! Which is why she likes to walk with them, because she wants to make sure that everyone's okay. Sometimes she even climbs the towers to check on the two heroes, because they need to be okay too.

One of the heroes sleepwalks a lot. That's a little girl. Sometimes the nice queen has to catch the little girl and tuck her back into bed! [ She smiles; Becca doesn't know it, but that's a true story about Jade. ] The other one has bad dreams, and writes stuff all over his walls. So the nice queen pets his hair until he has good dreams again.

I wish I lived there....

[Becca isn't really in the mood to do much other than listen to Jade, but it's soothing her soul to have something other than her memories to focus on.]

Maybe you can! It's a dream world. You fall asleep, and wake up there. And nothing bad ever happens.

That sounds so nice. But if it's a dream world, how come the heroes are asleep? What happens when you sleep in a dream?

You have weird dreams. [ She shakes her head. ] When I was asleep, I wandered a lot. I couldn't figure out my dreams, they were always gold-tinted...but it wasn't until I was awake in the real world for a long time before I finally woke up there for good.

John wrote on his walls.

So that was you? You're a hero?
