After shenanigans at Recette's shop, Dirk has some deliveries to make -- memory charms for Dave and Sis, and memory charms plus upgrades and those Prospit dreaming pendants for Jake and Jane.

Aw man, and movie night is tonight also... He's gonna be busy today.

Throughout the day, he can be found around Fortitude and Rakuen, and lurking about outside the borders of Conquest.

[ She forgot her name? Huh. Dirk folds his arms over his chest. ]

What is it? Don't tell me it's Dirkette.

[ Ooh, touchy. That just makes him want to know even more, you know. ]

Dirkanna? Dirky Sue?

...oh. It's just Dirk, isn't it? Your parents were cruel motherfuckers. My condolences.

No, my name isn't Dirk either.

Huh. I don't know what else to assume, though. Dave is still Dave, Jade is still Jade, Rose is still Rose... [ Shrug! ] If you're not gonna tell me otherwise.

My parental units gave me a female name, stupid.

But gee. How do I know that for a fact unless you tell me what it is?

Because my name is stupid.

Nothing much. Just diddling around the place today, I did some shopping earlier. You know. Girl stuff.

[ He just stares, unimpressed. ]

Well, that's a coincidence. Because I went shopping, too.

[ He tosses the pouch to her -- one Dreamboat Pendant, one memory charm, two upgrades. ]

If that makes me girly then so be it. [ But he smiles as he says it. ]

[bloodbrother]

[He's walking around, not paying attention, because he's got his nose in a freaking huge book. One about Alternian trolls, as a matter of fact. He's nearly to the end by now. Too bad he's so locked on it that he just runs into Dirk's back because he's not paying attention. That book probably hurts.

And the book lands on Sam's foot. Somehow this book only Sassacre could love doesn't seem to do any damage to him.]

[ Dirk is just standing there at a corner in the middle of town, having just put on his Dreamboat Pendant, eyes closed and focusing. But even now, he's still stuck. It's an almost claustrophobic feeling and one he's none too comfortable with after years of being awake on both Earth and Derse. He'd been hoping to alleviate it with this.

So it's only really half Sam's fault. Dirk wasn't paying attention either. ]

Shit-- Ack. Hey. You all right?

[bloodbrother]

[that shoe is impossibly flat when he picks that book up again. And he's not putting any weight on it. But he doesn't seem to be in the amount of pain one would be if their foot was just crushed.]

I just learned what it feels like to have your foot crushed. I was good until now.

[He's gotten over being mad at Dirk pretty easily.]

[ Dirk takes a look down and actually flinches. Wow, shit. ]

You're sure taking it in stride.

[bloodbrother]

No pun intended?

[He puts a hand on Dirk's shoulder.] Mind leading me over to that bench? [points with that book like it's a paperback]

You underestimate me.

Sure. [ He puts a hand on Sam's shoulder and guides him over to the nearby bench to sit down. ] You seem pretty tough. Your foot gonna be okay?

[bloodbrother]

[He sits down and starts untying the shoe. Some blood is coming up around his sock.] Yeah. I'll be fine. I had a good meal this morning, and I've mostly been out of the sun so I'm more or less at 100%.

[He puts a hand on the heel, ready to pull the shoe off. Stops.] Uh. This is going to look like a crime scene. If you don't want to see I won't judge you.

[fracturedsoul]

[ He just shrugs. ] I can handle a little blood. Let's see it.

[bloodbrother]

[Not too sure, but he goes for it. Crime scene indeed. The sock's kind of dangling like a half-filled sausage. And his socks are white.]

And to think once upon a time I'd be in a screaming heap on the ground.

[He sets his foot on the ground and starts edging the sock off.] It'll be fine in a few minutes. Here. Stand between the sun and my foot. You'll get to see something cool.

Dicksicles. How much does that book weigh?

[ But he moves between the sun and Sam's foot, staring down curiously. He's really glad he's not squeamish, because fuck this is bad. ]

He keeps walking, but at least he isn't running.

If Dave were honest, he never got over it. He doesn't think he will. For all his nonchalant attitude, this type of stuff just stuck onto him. Hopefully Dirk just never figures out why this were such a deal.

He was the Knight of Time. How do you just live with the fact that every timeline you've tried to have her survive ended up doomed or just ended up with even more people dying? Why should he feel guilty? He does anyways. Despite being in control of the time, you couldn't make the alpha timeline void of anything bad. And maybe that's what made it worst. Despite being the time player, he had to be prepared that sacrifices had to be made. Sacrifices he didn't want to make. All the guardians dying. In the end, that was a choice he had to agree with. A choice that had to exist in the alpha timeline because it couldn't continue without their sacrifice.

[And when the sun's off of it, it starts to fix itself.] If it were nighttime, it would already be back to normal. Those shoes will never be the same, but I'll be fine soon. [With the sock off, the lost-cause tissue is fading to dust and is being replaced, while in other places it's filling out to a normal foot again.]
