Suzaku sat in the corner of the downstairs common room in the Black dorm building. Spread out in front of him was a couple of textbooks and a lot of paper. He frowned, he had never found biology easy but this! He hadn't even seen half of these plants before in his life and was starting to suspect they didn't even exist in his world.

Other worlds, the idea was terrifying when Suzaku stopped long enough to think about it, other worlds with other animals and other plants from what he knew. He blinked at the question again, he had no idea; he sighed heavily and read through the textbook again.

Suzaku nodded, he guessed Yuka was as well as could be expected since she had been kidnapped and brought here by force and had her memories stolen. He sat quietly not sure if he should say anything else.

Oh, she was being depressing again, wasn't she. She should try to change the subject quickly. "Ah, what about you, Suzaku-san? You said I was new, so does that mean you came here earlier?"

Suzaku blinked at the change of subject. "Yes I have been here two weeks, we were the first people here." Why the kidnappers had decided they needed more people he didn't know, but there had been quite a lot of new people the day after the night they had all had the same nightmare.

"Oh, I see." Two weeks seemed like such a long time when she'd only been here a few days. "Was it always like this? With all the fighting..."

Suzaku nodded looking solumn, "Yes, that seems to be the purpose of the whole school. No one cares if you don't turn up to class. The kidnappers seem determined only to make us fight. I don't know why." Everyone had theories it seemed but the only way to find out was to play along until they could find a way to escape.

Of course there was the shared nightmare as well, but Suzaku was trying not to think about that, not because he was scared. He had nightmares on a nightly basis, but because the fact they had all had the same dream, it was strange. He couldn't explain it and so he was trying to ignore it.

She frowned. "Does something bad happen if we don't fight, then? I don't really want..." At home she would fight to protect the others, of course, but fighting just for the sake of it...at least people didn't seem to die from it here, but still.

Suzaku frowned, "We're not sure. We loose tokens if we don't fight, they made it sound like worse could happen if we continued not to cooperate. They have this thing called the penalty, it happens if a Player touches another Player's weapon, it's like a piercing headache," Suzaku had not experianced it but had seen people who had and it seemed painful.

"A group tried to get past the battles by playing a game of checkers and having the looser forfeit as a way to not fight and they were all given the penalty and lost tokens. Not only the players but the weapons suffered..." He sighed.

"Oh." That didn't sound good. Well, by itself it didn't sound too bad, but if it got worse from there... "So there isn't really a way around it, then."

Suzaku shook his head, "Not that we can find." He shrugged again, "We just have to try and figure out how to escape, and those that can fight have to protect those that can't."

She nodded, chewing on her lip in thought. "Right..." She wasn't sure which group she counted under here, since she couldn't transform for some reason, and she'd never learned to fight in human form. But she didn't know anyone here, and she couldn't just ask a stranger to help her; she'd be hoping it was possible to just avoid it, but if it wasn't...

She started out of her thoughts. "Oh, um, I'm sorry to bother you by asking so many questions..."

Suzaku made himself smile and shook his head, "Don't worry, we were all really confused at first anyways, sit down," he waved to the empty seats on the table he was sat at, "Ask anything, though I might not know all the answers."

"All right." She sat down carefully in a seat near him but not right next to him, and glanced at the pile of books again. "Um, well...we don't really have to go to school, do we? I mean, some people aren't even the right age..."

Suzaku shrugged, "There's classes, we were told to go to them, but there are no penalties for not going, no one seems to care." It was true that with the mix of ages there was really no point as everyone knew different things, and there were people here who didn't need to go to school and others who had never been to school.

"They seem more interested in making us fight, but we might learn things about this world from the classes." That's why he was going anyways, that and he kept to the rules as much as he could.

"That's true, I suppose." She hesitated a moment, then added, "I hadn't really been going to school for a while, in my world... But here I guess it's something to do, at least."

Suzaku nodded, "Me neither," he hadn't gone to school since Lelouch had become emperor and he had only been going before that because he had been sent to keep an eye on Lelouch, fuzziness invaded, he had no idea why he had been sent to school to watch Lelouch and he had to force himself not to think too hard about it to make the fuziness stop.

Yuka wasn't going to ask. She definitely didn't want anyone asking her about why she stopped going to school. She did hope his reason wasn't as bad as hers. "Was your world...fairly normal, then? If it had school and everything?"

Suzaku nodded, "Well... it's normal for me, I didn't know there were any other worlds before I was brought here." He fell silent, that probably wasn't helpful. "Britannia owned half the world," that was before Lelouch took over anyways, "There's lots of wars. But there's still schools. I went to one last year for a while before..." He fell silent and shook his head, not wanting to speak about Euphemia's death at all, especially since she was here for some strange reason. "I was a soldier and now I'm a knight." He hadn't meant to say that much and he shrugged again.

"What was your world like?"

"O-Oh, I didn't mean I knew there were other worlds, I just meant normal like mine, I guess." Britannia? She didn't think she'd heard of a place like that...did he mean England, maybe?

"Mine was...well we didn't really have wars or anything. Uh, Japan didn't, I guess some other countries did. But where I lived it was just...normal. People went to school and work and things." She would not mention the Orphenochs. Most of the humans from her world hadn't known about them either, so everything was normal for them.

Suzaku nodded, he was relieved actually at the amount of people who seemed to come from worlds where Japan was still Japan and hadn't been invaded, where there were no wars. "Yes, I still don't understand it but there are people here from lots of different worlds," Lloyd didn't even understand it fully and that gave Suzaku very little hope that they were going to escape any time soon.

"It's nice to know there are worlds with no wars." He said quietly with another tiny smile.

The way he said that... "Are the wars really bad?"

Suzaku nodded slowly, "War's are always bad." He fell silent, he didn't really want to talk about the war because that would lead to his part in it. It was a depressing subject anyways and he did not want to upset Yuka. "I'm sorry, we should talk about something more chearful."

She nodded; he probably didn't want to talk about it. "Well, there were still fun things too, right? Like hanging out with friends, or going to amusement parks and things..."

Suzaku blinked, he could not remember he had been with all his friends, Ashford he guessed but even then. The last time he had been there he had been too busy keeping an eye on Lelouch; he still couldn't remember why. Something about the Emperor and Rolo, why was Rolo pretending to be Lelouch's brother anyways?

His mind was filling with fog. He had speant time with Gino and Anya before he had joined with Lelouch, that had mainly been in battle though but it had been fun when they hadn't been fighting. But Gino hated him now, and Anya too, both thought him a traitor.

He was a traitor, he thought hard trying to remember another time he had been with his friends in the last year. The day with Lelouch and Shirley, the day Shirley had died...

He shook his head, "friends die in wars." He should leave, he was definatly upsetting Yuka and she did not deserve to hear his woes. He should leave her alone, he began to gather his books silently.

...oh. That hadn't been a good thing to ask, now she'd just upset him. "Ah! I-I'm really sorry, I didn't mean to..."

Suzaku was shaking but he tried to keep his feelings under control. After all he shouldn't make Yuka upset, except she already was upset, he had upset her and even though he wanted to leave and be alone he knew that would make her more so.

"I'm sorry Yuka," he swallowed and forced a smile. He was good at it, he had lots of practice, faking happiness for those around him, for Euphemia, for Nunnally, even for Gino at times to make the younger knight leave him alone. "It's alright, why don't you tell me about your world instead?"
