ROUND 4 - NEW PLAYERS & ROUND CHANGE

You're falling, and you can't remember why. It's a sickening feeling that makes your insides lurch; the darkness and the vertigo combine, and all you can think of is a story you heard once, somewhere.

- I remember now. It's a simple story that everyone knows. A legend of a Princess, the Demon Lord who kidnapped her, and the Knight who fought to save her.

The Demon Lord had kidnapped the Princess countless times, but every time the Knight bested his challenges and rescued the Princess.

No matter what tricks and ploys the Demon Lord used, the Knight would always triumph in the end. This was because--

The world tilts on its axis one last time, and the dream slips from your mind as easily as it arrived. A new voice intrudes on your sleep.

"Next stop: Academy Main Entrance. This tramline terminates here; all change. Next stop: Academy Main Entrance. All change."

Sunlight streams through the windows of the long carriage, making the seats almost uncomfortably warm beneath its waking passengers. The air is muggy and thick, the atmosphere deeply tired. Your nausea settles, slowly. The last of the dream fades.

"We have arrived at Utopia. Repeat, we have arrived at Utopia Academy. Could all passengers please leave the tram, as it is terminating here."

The tram pulls to a stop outside the academy station, and anyone onboard is ushered off and directed to the front lobby of the school. You can't miss it; there are signs up pointing toward the main entrance, reading "New student orientation" in big, bright letters. If anyone should care to move off the path, try exploring somewhere else, a teacher will conveniently appear to shoo them back toward the lobby, assuring them that "all your questions will be answered inside".

The lobby is big and spacious, looking more like a university or perhaps a fancy international hotel than a high school. Stood around are any number of students in the uniform of the school. Some of them even look awake. There are several receptionists at the desk towards the back of the lobby, but for now they seem busy with paperwork.

Anyway, the many screens are far more interesting. Once a good number of students are gathered inside the building, they all activate at once to show a cheerful, almost cavity-inducing woman in the school uniform. She smiles, waves, and launches into her speech without further ado.

"Good afternoon to our new students here at Utopia Academy! Thank you for choosing to enroll with us for this, our first semester of the new year. Our battle system is the best in the world, set up for you, our students! I hope that you all had a fun journey here, and that you've all made some new friends! You're going to need them soon, so keep them close, okay?

"Now, I'm going to explain the rules for you. Make sure to listen carefully, and remember, you can find all of this and more in the Exaclan manual!"

She outlines the battle system for the newbies as she has every round previous, then claps her hands. The screen goes blank, and the following appears:

Dahlia Hawthorne
Edward Elric
Gino Weinberg
Kanaya Maryam
Lelouch vi Britannia

[When Saber awoke on the tram, she was under the impression this wasn't another one of the Holy Grail Wars. It was the feeling of being human. No, human was inaccurate. It was the feeling of being alive. That was something this king was not meant to feel.

So her guard had been momentarily lowered to indulge in this fresh life. Only for the realization to hit her crudely by this girl's words. Here she was to participate in another war. This time it was one she had no place in.

Simply put - she must fight to survive and even if she perishes, they can bring her back to force her to re-do it.]

It is against the knight's oath to permit this to occur. I will defend when I must, but I cannot actively seek out a fight unless it is with another heroic spirit. Unjust it would be otherwise.

[Grenn won't start to guess where the other's from, and the context of whatever that place is, so she just shrugs.]

I... hope that'll work. [She shakes her head, because at this, she has no idea and can't really help. But there's other things she can mention.]

We earn tokens from winning battles, or... other things, you should have arrived with ten. You can't use them unless you have a Player who can buy things for you, but they're used to buy either upgrades; they look like rings. [Here Grenn holds up one of her hands to show off the two rings that she has; only one of which actually belongs to her weapon.]

You can also get Memory Charms, which'll get one memory back... But any charm you buy yourself won't work for you. Only those given to you by others will get you a memory back...

I will find a feasible way around the system. [She will pray.

Lord will she ever pray. Bringing her free hand to rest a finger against her lips in thought, this woman thinks over everything she's been told.]

This system is designed to make allies, yet you may have to fight against your allies? No, that doesn't seem right. These memory charms are used with a greater weight, are they not?

No one... Well, no one's a Player or Weapon all the time, and no one's definitely been a Player twice in a row... [Grenn shrugs and idly tugs on the hair framing the right side of her face.]

But yes, basically? I don't understand it either... And, I suppose the charms work as a greater incentive... [Because some people were probably gonna have a hard time connecting with people on a "I want to help you, because you seem nice" level, so leveraging charms may be necessary.]

Have some of the others befriended their past opponents?

[An odd question, but she can't help her curiosity. Yet, she realizes how awkward the remark was in the first place, giving an apologetic look to the girl.]

My rudeness isn't befitting of my status. My name is Saber, may I ask you of your name?

Oh, uhm--- I'm sorry! [Great, she was completely amazing wasn't she? Forgetting introducing herself...]

I'm Grenn. And, well... I don't know about the others in general, but one of the people I fought in round... -1? I think, I do count as a friend. It's not impossible. [Grenn paused to shrug and frowned, thinking on it.]

I... really don't see any problems, unless you don't like someone prior... or how they act here... Or unless someone actually likes the pain the... 'duels' inflict. [Grenn shook her head again. Of course, there may be those that would be blinded by the competitiveness of it all, but what would that help, in the end, especially as they were switched around between Weapon and Player?]
