rakuen | Pale Dorm shenanigans

It had already been more than a week, and they were no closer to figuring out who was responsible for bringing them all to this school than they had been on day one. It was frightening, especially for someone like Fletcher, an introvert who'd spent much of his short life sheltered by his brother. Sure, he'd been exposed to the world more in the past year than he had been before that, but that still didn't equal being enrolled in a boarding school and forced to fight other students.

He was trying to make it seem less weird by getting to know the other kidnappees and by actually attending class and doing the assigned work, which wasn't too difficult for him, though the information they were learning in History was... a bit odd, and he wasn't even sure he could attribute the discrepancies with what he knew to be true to lost memories. Another mystery he would have to somehow learn the truth behind.

For now, though, he was sitting in the Pale dorm common room, a science textbook open on the table in front of him, studying something he should have already known: The periodic table. It was frustrating; every time he got distracted by something else, all the information he'd just read went flying out of his head, and he had to start all over. He didn't realize it, but the door to the hallway was wide open.

It isn't that all hard! [ she bends over to point to a few things in his book ]

See this number here in small print? It means... [ she pauses, trying to think of a logical answer, she doesn't know what the numbers are much less what they represent ] It shows how strong each element is! So Hydrogen is the strongest out of all of you them! [ because obviously teaching false information is the best way to learn ]

Strongest? [He peers at the little numbers. Huh!] So then helium is the next strongest and lithium...

Wait, strongest how?

If you were to put Hydrogen in everything, it'd explode!

Ack! Wow, really? [He doesn't recall anything like that, but the information isn't slipping away from him the way everything else does...] So then... uranium, that must be really weak.

Yeah, uranium couldn't even hurt a fly. So remember this when you're dealing with the elements. [ she's feeling confident enough to go on with her lies here. hey, he was listening to her, and that's what mattered ]

Anything else?

Um... how come they're arranged so strangely? There's hydrogen, and then helium's way over at the other end, and then there's this big gap between beryllium and boron...

The guys who made it up just couldn't handle the strength of the strongest two together so they split them up!

Ohhhh...! That makes a lot of sense!

[He writes down notes in his notebook. He has to glance back at the periodic table to recall the element names themselves, but the basic logic of the structure is sticking with him. This is a good sign!] Thank you so much, Hiyo!

Of course~ Gotta help a roommate in need, right? [ she smiles, almost naturally, but she uses this opportunity to sneak peaks at his text book and memorize as much of the periodic table as she can for her own assignment ]

I know a lot of things about science, so you can go ahead and ask me anything!

Wow, I'm really lucky to have you as a roommate. Okay, I'll ask you anything I need to know! [Although really it's just the periodic table he's forgotten... oh!] Um, do you know anything about alchemy? I forgot a bunch of transmutation circles...

[ shit she doesn't know anything about alchemy at all either. okay, well, making things up has been a good plan so far ]

They're like this! [ she gets out a piece of circle and legit draws some funny shaped circles ] How could you forget something so simple, Fletcher?

[Peeers at them and frowns.] ...really? Those look weird...

Did you really forget this stuff? This is the most basic of transmutation circles!

[Looks down all ashamed-like.] S-sorry. I didn't mean to...

It's alright! Just as long as you understand this, okay? You can't go wrong with what I'm telling you~

Right! [He looks at her drawings and copies those down in his notebook, too. His brother will be so proud!]

[ hahaha, he actually listened to her. how amusing~ she watches him carefully, and then proceeds to draw some more odd circular shapes ]
