Math time shenanigans

Characters: Everyone
Format: Whatever
This log is: open
Location: Math class
It's a bright and sunny weekday morning. The sort of morning one should be spending sleeping in, or failing that, outside playing with friends.

Sadly for all of you, you're in this classroom studying logarithms. (Well, except for those of you who are cutting class. Good luck when finals roll around!) Right now, you've been split up into groups of three and four and should be quizzing each other on the questions from the end of the chapter in your textbook. If you're anything like ordinary high school students, though, you're probably discussing something completely different.

lmao it's okay

Kallen almost jerked her head back in shock. People that she was being silly or wreckless with her plan... but to have someone understand without explaining her life story (not that Tsuki heard her life story but the important parts). "Huh..."

"I was done fighting in my world. I'm not doing to 'jump' worlds and start fighting again."

"What about your friends here? If something happens to them while they're playing Exaclan, would you ignore them?" she tilted her head, questioning Kallen's mindset. She couldn't just ignore everything, she'd have to have some sort of role in all of this.

"Gino can handle his own. He's the only friend I have here." Well the only friend she considered for the time being. Their relationship was back on good terms. As for Lelouch and the others... she wouldn't exactly call them friends at this point.

Kallen had seem like a person who had many friends, Hiyo noted. To hear that she only had one other friend was, as everything else was, interesting.

"You should make some more friends! There's a lot of nice people here," she sat up. "I'll be your friend, okay? Now you have two! O-Oh, that is, if you'd like me to be your friend..."

[personal profile] queenscheckmate 2011-01-16 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay. That caused Kallen to blink a couple of times in shock. "Well, all right then," she laughed. Because of her background, the teenager tended to see people more as allies than friends. And to her, the title made a big difference.

"If you ever need anything, Hiyo is here for you!" She grinned widely. "I'm glad to be friend's with such a cool person~"

A girl who used to be seen as a terrorist is cool to you? "Thank you Hiyo. The same goes for you, all right?"
siscon: (( 10 ))

Hey, if you told her that, it might make you Hiyo's favorite.

"Right, right. Let's be good friends!"

She had simply planned to put herself at the back to get some actual math done... The discussion with Reiko had been interesting, but she didn't want to risk someone see her do math the way she'd been taught and wonder yet again what she was doing.

The back of the classroom had seemed like a good idea. It had been a good idea, until she found Tougyu sleeping there. Of course, the back of the classroom wasn't small, so she could, really, ignore him and just do what she'd planned to do.

Was he stupid? She didn't know if there was any sort of reprecussion for being found not doing the work set out. There was none for not appearing in class, so... But. still. And, well. Such idiocy...

She'd been about to shake his shoulder, when she remembered what Sora had told her, and abruptly picked up his math book instead, and put that on his head. It was already starting to slide off. Maybe that would wake him, because she wasn't going to touch him and risk getting hit, if he was the violent sort when waking up.

The minute the textbook touched his head, Tougyu's eyes snapped open out of reflex. For a moment he expected to see a flash of silver coming towards his head or the sharp tip of a pen-

"Ow." The pained mumble escaped his lips as the memory all but vanished in a split second, leaving him wondering why he was tense and agitated. That was when the textbook slid off his head completely, landing on his nose. With a frown, the youth raised his head and absently wiped at his chin before taking in his bearings.

Math class was clearly underway and nobody was paying him any attention, so what had...? Oh. His eyes landed on Grenn with dull recognition. It was the girl who had been his first player, the one who had lost him to that human tree.

"It's you." He remarked in a bland tone of voice, as if that were the most brilliant thing he was capable of saying.

Rolling her eyes, Grenn raised her eyebrows as she stared down at Tougyu.

"You know you don't have to be in class, right? There are more comfortable places to sleep." Because really, if she had got the idea to use her time not participating in classes by sleeping, she wouldn't do it in class. That seemed rather counter-productive.

But why she even bothered, she wasn't sure. It wasn't as if Tougyu was the most pleasant person to attempt to talk with.
frozen_desires: (this shit is outta whack)

[personal profile] frozen_desires 2011-01-16 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'll do whatever I want." Tougyu replied in a monotone voice as he gazed out at the class and let his eyes land on the back of Sora's head. She was currently bent over the textbook, busy trying to decipher its numbers. So busy that she didn't have time to bother him, which was exactly what he'd been planning on.

Originally, his plan had been to avoid her completely, her and her weapons. But the one thing he'd forgotten about Himoto Sora was her ridiculous persistence. She kept trying to... interact with him. Like it was her duty, her job, and the last thing Tougyu wanted was to be treated like one of her pity cases.

To be put on the same level as Reiko or- ... there it was again, the feeling that he was forgetting something very important. That damn lost memory.

"What are you doing here?" He decided to ask instead, turning the conversation away from his avoidance of a certain red-haired nuisance.

She didn't understand. What was with males and the "I'll do what I want" attitude? Was it ingrained in the y-chromosome? Forever and ever to be duplicated and carried on?
"... You do know that that sort of attitude won't work in the real world, after school..." she had been about to say 'unless you're filthy rich', but she didn't want to give him any sort of out, considering the attitude the actual Utopia Academy tried to breed.

And then... aw, crap. She should have minded her own business. Grenn scratched the side of her head and considered what to say. Finally, a shrug.

"Math, of course. The way they're doing it isn't agreeing with what I've been taught." Did she elaborate? No, then she'd probably just accidentally say something she probably shouldn't. At least the first time that happened, Tougyu seemed to not have grasped how serious she was.

Which reminded her, she needed to train more with her legs. However unpleasant. For the first time, secretly, she wished for even one of the generic pain killer drugs they gave out... Even the ones that simply delayed the pain until later (to be released in not-so-pleasant pain spikes) would have been preferable to the nothing she had now.

Tell that to Iwahijiri, Tougyu thought uncharitably as he let his eyes roam over the classroom to look at other people. It was obvious from the way Grenn spoke that she wasn't from the original Utopia but Tougyu was starting to wonder exactly where she was from. Her name hinted at a different heritage, certainly, European or American, perhaps. But then there were those prosthetic legs... maybe he didn't have a keen interest in that kind of medicine but he was pretty sure what she had worn that day was definitely beyond their current technology.

And then there was that little comment. That tiny iota of a remark that he had brushed off as a hyperbole. Doubtless, there was something very strange about this woman...

"How were you taught?" He inquired, returning his gaze to her. His tone was invasive, commanding and rude as always but his face remained perfectly calm and neutral. As if he really didn't feel the words he spoke.

It was exactly that difference between his facial expression and voice, which both frustrated and confused Grenn. If he at least would have the courtsey to do it like most people who hid behind an expressionless face did and have a voice that matched the face, everything would be much easier! As it was, she wasn't sure whether she should react to the face, or the voice, but the voice made her rather infuriated.

"Like this..." So in a fit of pique (she really needed to control her temper), she quickly sketched down a problem she'd had to deal with recently; the fact of fuel and its behaviour in space. That you'd have to use math with that might seem strange, and Grenn didn't understand why she, who was going to be a pilot and not a mechanic, had to know this.

Finished, she put her notebook down, well-aware that Tougyu wouldn't be able to solve that problem because, well... She knew with certainity he didn't live at the point in time when the Navier-Stokes equations had been refined and a breakthrough reached.

Of course, it might have been rather rude to slap down not a fundamental problem, but something more advanced...

[personal profile] frozen_desires 2011-01-16 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
As Grenn set her notebook down, Tougyu tilted his head to peer at the paper before his eyes suddenly narrowed. Reaching over and picking it up, he used one scarred finger to trace the equation as he murmured softly to himself as his face grew more and more confused.

Finally, after a long moment, he looked up at Grenn with a deep frown.

"A solution doesn't exist." Yet. Curiously, his voice was quiet now. Almost speculative in some manner as he gazed at the girl with searching eyes.

[personal profile] summerstars 2011-01-16 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Of course not. Yet," Grenn said with something nearing smugness, echoing Tougyu's mental statement. And then realized she had just been rash. Again. Suppressing a sigh and the urge to tug on her hair, she knew she had it coming. Yuki had been so much easier to talk to, and there had been time (relatively, there always seemed to not be enough time) to consider what she should reveal or not.

"And with patience, they shall be blessed..." Grenn muttered to herself, and tried to make it be true. She had already done this much. And he wouldn't be able to learn anything from this, since that particular equation was for azural. Something else that didn't exist yet.

So she took her notebook back and solved the equation, relieved she remembered what had been taught only a month ago.

Mai sat quietly for a moment while that statement set in, accepting her own copy idly. "Wait, you had to do someone's homework? Like you were forced to?" Mai asked Koharu, astounded.

"Kajiwara wasn't too bad for that. The Student Council just didn't like doing their homework." Koharu leaned in, brushing aside Mai's concern.

"Well here, you do this..." Koharu tried to simplify the work as much as she could, pointing out every step, reiterating the point of the problem three times. She wasn't sure if Sora got it though.

"Does everyone understand?"

[personal profile] frozen_desires 2011-01-17 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
When Grenn took the paper back, Tougyu got out of his chair to watch her solve it, his eyes filled with a curious understanding of what she wrote and... not.

This didn't make sense, that solution didn't exist and yet she wrote the numbers with the assurance of one who knew exactly what they were doing. Was Grenn much more intelligent than he'd given her credit for? Or was something else at play here?

As his hand went out to Grenn's shoulder, resting on it with the barest amounts of pressure, Tougyu leaned in and spoke against her ear, well aware that if he acted rashly now, he'd gain attention.

Something he did not want to do with Sora a mere 5 feet away. That would be just the opening she needed to try and drag him into her fold.

"Who are you?"
summerstars: (not good)

[personal profile] summerstars 2011-01-17 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
That was too close. And she didn't mean what he was saying. But all she did was tense up and frown, because how were you supposed to answer something like that?

"... I was rather sure you knew my name, Toygyu." That came out first, and it wasn't until after she'd said it, that she realized that wasn't what he'd meant. It was a more general question. She tilted her head to be able to look at him out of the corner of her eye, mouth set in a slanted, narrow line.

"I am no one special," she started, and was briefly distracted when she remembered (so not-special, that Lyra had first started to talk to her for... for... something. Frag...), shaking her head, Grenn pulled her brain back on track.
"My future career will be in flying." She was rather sure, considering the intensity she suddenly had been 'gifted' with, that Tougyu was now considering her earliest angry remark very closely. To forestall, she decided to give him what she had given Yuki, but it didn't please her at all.

"It's year 326, Tougyu." She was not going to tell him anything else.

[personal profile] frozen_desires 2011-01-17 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Staying silent for the most part, Tougyu rolled over that new bit of information in his mind. The academy was... reaching through time?

That was absurd, the sort of thing found only in sci-fi and the minds crack-pot theorists. Then again, he had the beginnings of solid evidence right here in front of him. Grenn's legs, her mathematical theorems, that seemingly innocent statement from earlier... was it possible? Or was she just a genius pulling his leg?

"You're from the future." He finally said, expression never changing as he looked directly at her now, which was possibly unnerving at such close range.

No, said Sora's sigh. Also Sora's slumped posture and Sora's hopeless expression.

"Yeah!" said Sora's mouth, severely outnumbered.

She was not gonna push herself into the back of the chair, no matter how close he was. And then that sort of deadpan expression and voice, which just made her annoyed. How was she supposed to interpret that? Was it just a statement of fact, looking for confirmation (despite what she'd already said), or was he mocking her?

"... Unless the past... er, your future, got a lot more advanced, then yes, I suppose that's what I'm saying," Grenn said, a definitive snarky lilt to her voice. With a sigh, she rolled her eyes. Since she'd already made the mistake of mentioning the "wouldn't be invented for a few hundred years" she supposed there was no harm...

"The sort of pain killer someone with prostethics would be given involve, among other possibilities, a complete lack of feeling pain." There. And if he still didn't believe, she didn't care. It might even be preferable.

... So. Why had she just gone through the trouble of making him believe her? Frag.
