It's a bright and sunny weekday morning. The sort of morning one should be spending sleeping in, or failing that, outside playing with friends.

Sadly for all of you, you're in this classroom studying logarithms. (Well, except for those of you who are cutting class. Good luck when finals roll around!) Right now, you've been split up into groups of three and four and should be quizzing each other on the questions from the end of the chapter in your textbook. If you're anything like ordinary high school students, though, you're probably discussing something completely different.

Looking up, Hiyo saw the older female and gave a small nod of her head. While she was still fuming about the supposedly difficult math problems, she did her best to really calm down and stare at the book in front of her.

"It's not like I don't know how to do this," she stated, her fingers playing with the corner of the pages quietly. "I just... I just can't count."

Oh that was going to be a problem.

"Well let me ask you. You can't count or you can't remember how to?"

"I think I knew how to do this before, but I forgot how to, I think," she replied, sighing heavily.

Yeah. That would be a problem. And to be honest, Kallen didn't think that the teacher should hold it against for not remembering. It's not like this girl chose what memories to forget.

The teenager sat across from the girl and introduced herself. "My name is Kallen. What's yours?"

Oh, how lovely, someone was going to help her. Maybe, she thought, if she could befriend this older girl, she would get even more help for her plans (whatever they were, of course... Remembering her own schemes was frustrating her too.)

"It's nice to meet you, I'm Hiyo! Thank you for the help, Kallen!"

"I'm not sure what help I can really provide. Without basic counting, I doubt any of this is going to make any sense to you. But I can try."

Hiyo shook her head, looking down at her book. "I'm sure you'll be a big help - I just know it!" Optimism was a key point to playing the role of a good girl, Hiyo knew, so she added an extra umph to her exuberance and looked back to Kallen.

"So, where do we start?"

"At the beginning, I guess." The older one had been getting a weird vibe, but then shrugged it off. "You know what logarithms are, right?"

She blinked.

"S-Sure I do!" she replied quickly. "It's... It's this thing, with numbers and... stuff, right?"

"If you don't know, it's okay," Kallen laughed. "A logarithm of a number to a given base is the power to which the base must be raised in order to produce that number." She paused. "The base is usually b equals ten."

"I think I get it," she paused for a second to let the definition process in her head. "Can we do an example, Kallen?"

"Sure." She takes a piece of paper from her notebook and drafts a formula. Kallen writes down:

"It's just that?" Hiyo questioned the older female, looking at the example a second time. "That didn't seem too hard..."

I know nothing about this. Math outside of algebra is either null or I just suck at, like geo.

"Yeah, I guess they are." She looked at the pages of her book to see if there was anything that seemed troubling. "It says to figure out the logarithms for these numbers and order them... The numbers are big though," she murmured.

algebra makes me happy.... It's the only math thing I'm good at lmao

"Yeah. They usually don't break then down too often." Kallen tapped the pencil onto the piece of paper. "See if you can solve this."

The horrors of mathematics. The horrors of logarithms. Hiyo didn't even want to try, really, but she stared long and hard at the given problem anyway.

And she just. ended up staring at it for what seemed a very long time.

"I-I can't do it."

LMAO I would never be able to figure this out.

"It's all right." Kallen understood that there was no way Hiyo was going to get through this math class. "I wonder if there's someone we can talk to about this."

"I-I'm sorry for being able to do this..." she glanced off to the side, at the feet of some other poor soul in class. "Do you know anyone who's good at math?"

"No, don't apologize. It's not your fault, Hiyo." She looked up at the ceiling for a split second. "I am good at math, but if you can't remember how to count, then none of this is going to make any sense, no matter who helps you. And it's not fair to you to have to be in this class because of a memory you didn't choose to get taken away from you."

"Isn't there a way to restore memories?" she asked, as she had heard about the method to regain those last fragments, but Hiyo wasn't too occupied with the idea of regaining them, however they seemed important to get back (why the hell did she forget how to count?).

"There is from what I remember. To be honest, I haven't picked up the book they gave us in the beginning. But from what I gather from the videos, there is." Kallen set her blue eyes on Hiyo. "I wonder if you could choose what memories you can have returned to you."

"Knowing Iwahijiri," Hiyo paused, taking a moment to look darkly into the air. "It's probably at random. I don't think they'd give you the freedom to choose which one you'd get."

"Iwahijiri?" That was a unfamiliar name to Kallen. But were they behind what was going on? As to why their memories were missing?

Hiyo contemplated whether or not to give this type of information to Kallen; while it was common knowledge amongst a small amount of students, she wondered if knowing more about the masterminds behind Utopia Academy and it's game would make it easier to lure this other student in as an ally.

She decided to say only just a little bit.

"They're a group of people - men - who had control over my version of the school and game," she started, "They take pride in male dominance and used the game as an excuse to show it off. The male students oppressed the female students, we had no freedom." The little girl wanted to go on more about the group of men she wanted to overcome, to rant and let out the frustration she had pent up but she reminded herself to keep it all cool; things would eventually fall into place.
