Swans Don't Teach Music Class

Summary: Louis attempts to teach a class about music despite having forgotten how to play his own trumpet.
Warnings: May contain hideous screeching noises when Louis attempts to play his trumpet.

BEFORE CLASS
Louis was desperately trying to play his trumpet. Each time he touched it, though, a pain went through his head, and he had to withdraw. The one time he actually managed to bring it to his beak, all that came out were fairly unmusical screechings. His wings slumped. How could he teach if he couldn't even play anymore?

START OF CLASS
Louis stood in front of the classroom, trying to look stern. On the chalkboard behind him, he had written a question: "Who already knows how to play an instrument?"

Dahlia walked into class fashionably early, as usual, and stopped and stared when she saw the teacher.

What.

[mutesician]

Louis had just set the trumpet down after another failed attempt. Upon seeing someone walk in, though, he immediately approached, waving her towards one of the seats. The oddness she must be experiencing hadn't sunk in yet.

[traces]

She remained in the doorway for a second, before stepping in and clutching her armful of textbooks to her chest protectively. "Er... Are you...?"

[mutesician]

He tilted his head, but was pretty sure what she meant. He nodded, then picked up a piece of chalk to write on the chalkboard with.

My name is Louis. I am teaching music class.

Wow, the fact he was used to all this ridiculous crap...

At least the teacher wasn't apparently nakking. Or laughing at him. Or making feathery asshole noises.

Dave just raises his hand at the question though. Yes. He can?

[ Watch it, Louis. Ringo is known for having infatuations with her teachers ]

[Oh. That's good. Louis, upon noticing that someone has raised their hand, goes on to write some more underneath the larger question, then steps back to show it.]

What kind?

[mutesician]

[Sorry. He's TAKEN. But right now, he's a little shaken by the exclamation. However, he'll gladly offer his head to be petted, and gesture with a wing to the question on the board.]

[ She looks at the question on the board, frowning ]

Ah, no... I don't.

[mutesician]

No problem. [Okay, technically it is a problem, since he can't quite teach the trumpet now...well, he has one musical person in the class, at least. Worst comes to worst, Dave gets promoted to a student teacher.]

[Anyways, he nudges Ringo's hand. She can pet him if she likes!]

[ Oh, so cute...

Ringo is going to do more then pet him, she's petting him and then leaning in to give the adorable soft feathered animal a hug ]

[She's just going to stare, hope you don't mind]

"I-I see... Er, I'm sorry, it's just so strange to see, um... a swan teaching."

By 'know', do you require us to be able to play the instrument. Or is the theory sufficient.

[mutesician]

[Oh. A hug? Well, he's gonna hug back! With his wings, of course. It's a very good thing he's not a human teacher. However, he pulls back after a moment. He still has a class to teach!]

[He motions for her to sit down. Class will be starting soon!]

[mutesician]

[He uses his personal slate for this.]

A swan. My name is Louis. Yes, I teach music.

[mutesician]

He nodded. He had been surprised to get the assignment as well. However, here he was, for better or for worse. Still, if she was here early, it'd be good to make some small "talk." So he wrote some more on the board. He'd erase it before class actually started.

What is your name?

[mutesician]

[He points his beak at Equius to show that he is addressing him specifically before writing on the board.]

How do you get just the theory of playing an instrument?

[This question has legitimately confused him. To him, knowing how to play and being able to play are mutually linked.]

"Dahlia, sir. It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Louis. I don't know much about music but I'll do my best."

[ Comments by other classmates are enough for her to figure out what the question was. She raises her hand, as well. ]

[ Smiling at him, taking a seat in her chair ]

He nodded, writing some more on the board while using his wing to rub out the previous question.

That's good.

I have of course extensively studied the more refined arts as befits someone of my stature. However I am limited in the instruments I may hold, being as I am of great and noble strength.

[mutesician]

[He already wrote "What kind?" on the board, so he points at it again. Yeah...he probably didn't notice she was blind yet. Whoops.]

[Oh my. That sounds terrible. Louis continues writing on the board, still looking at Equius.]
