Alex stood awkwardly at the front of the class, looking young enough and nervous enough that he could easily just be a lost student. He started passing out books, first to the weapons sitting in the front of the classroom, then to the rest of the class.

"W-well, I-I guess I'm supposed ta be your teacher or s-something.... I've n-never really taught before, so I guess l-let's start with the i-idea of programming. Ah, w-well, do any of you know anything about c-computer programming? I g-guess, if you don't, uh, j-just read the first chapter?"

Firifale had been through this before. By now, he was thoroughly sick of books that didn't have big friendly pictures of talking animals, and even those made him tetchy. He gave it a fair shot, though; he opened the book and scanned briefly through the pages.

They were full of words. And numbers. And ohno new things. Squiggly lines and pointy bits and all sorts of patterns that "Lily Lion's Bad Day" had not prepared him for.

Computer programming was scary.

He slammed the book shut. In a feat of acrobatics he used a pen and one foot to relegate it to a far corner of his desk, teetering precariously on the edge. His face was pale as he stared intently at the thing as if it were a cobra ready to strike. He licked his lips.

"....Help?"

[Alex comes over and catches the book, smiling reassuringly at Firifale.] I-it's okay! I-it's simpler th-than it looks. H-have you ever used a c-computer?

[Firifale nods, eyes still fixed on the book. He's pretty sure Alex is lying.]

Some? Good for talking with.

[Alex might be lying, though he sees it as being simpler than it looks.]

Well, h-have you ever wondered why the c-computer works the way it does?

[He looks like he's concentrating hard, but it's pretty clear that he understood nothing. Funny-- he was trying to listen, but he still missed most of that. Hmm. Right! A response!]

...Not good at computers? All the reading.

[Not quite relevant, but he's trying.]

[Alex sorta stood there a moment, not sure how to handle this.] Well... uh... c-computers speak their own language, an' p-programming is a language easier for p-people ta understand... So it's what we use ta talk to c-computers. Then, that tells th-the screen ta show what it does...?

[This contains significantly fewer Ws (thank you, memory loss) so it takes him a long moment to work it out, but he manages. He still sounds pretty dubious, though.]

That thing... easier than computer language?

[Still, he uses the pen to nudge it a bit closer and slips down in his desk till he's eye-level with it.]
