Summary: Puttering around for open harassment

Bookstore:
[The bookstore is a mess. He's struggling to keep up. But he's still got a smile on his face. Yes, he's one of those people that enjoys retail, suck it.]

Infirmary:
[After his day of work, he's exhausted. He goes to the infirmary, and drops heavily into his chair. He picks up a clipboard and goes over the data. Lately he's had to deal with a lot of students getting sick. He needs to run some more tests to try and find the cause. He got up again, and went to some of his equipment in the back of the room. He was not going to be beaten by this puzzle.]

I couldn't ask you to do that. I think the boss might get mad.

At you getting your job done more quickly?

[ He steps behind the counter and begins gathering up some scattered books. ]

[He frowns, but then sighs. He has a point. He just goes back to work himself without further word. The charm is burning a hole in his pocket, and he's a bit anxious. He knows there's big pieces of himself missing, but what if he'd killed someone? Or forgotten something important that he'd never forgive himself for? It was nice of Golbez to take care of him like this, and he was pretty sure he could smell Golbez on the last one he'd given to one of the donors as well. He was being rude by deflecting it to someone else. But he just couldn't do it. He couldn't bring himself to relive whatever it was that could have happened to him.

He was hungry on top of it, and with his hunger came the wooziness he'd gotten used to associating with it. Food didn't do the trick. He knew the blood would work, but others here needed it too...

He chewed his lip again, showing that his fangs were a bit bigger than normal as he considered these things.]

[ He eyes Sam out of the side of one eye as he helps organize and shelf the books. ]

Hungry?

[Nope, he didn't just jump and drop a book.] N-No....

[ And swooping in to pick that one up. Good job, Sam. ] Are you quite sure about that?

I'll be okay. I only have a few more hours left. --Thank you. [Puts it back where it goes and moves on to the next shelf, which is conveniently too tall for even Golbez to see over.]

[ Sam really is being difficult about this, isn't he? Don't think Golbez didn't notice you never put on the last one he bought you, doctor. He's on to you.

He finishes up over here, and follows Sam over to the next shelf. ]

I suppose I should get going. There's just one thing, though.

Thank you for your help. What is it? [Oh yes he's leaving this is good.]

[ He lowers his voice so that no one eavesdropping would be able to hear, taking advantage of his considerable size for once to loom over Sam. ]

This makes eighty raks I've spent attempting to help you regain a crucial memory. It's unspeakably rude of you to pawn those charms off to other people as though they were mere cheap trinkets.

[ Okay, he used his voucher for this one, but it's still the equivalent of forty raks. ]

[Loom is super effective! Sam's startled, and listens carefully as Golbez makes his point.]

Wait, just.... listen, please.

I... I don't know what kind of person I'll be if I get these memories back. What if I'm not really a nice person? What if I've killed people, or I go on to do so afterward? What if I can't be the same kind of person everyone wants me to be?

. . .

[ Ouch, Sam, right in the kokoro. This argument is an effective one, and it shows on Golbez's face that it's made an impact on him. ]

Then you wouldn't be the only one. Do you think it better to hide from your true self, afraid of what you may find?

If it means that no one gets hurt, then that's something I'm willing to accept. [But he can't look him in the eye when he finishes that sentence.]

Samuel. If a memory you regain turns you into a danger to those around you, rest assured that I will not allow you to bring harm to anyone.

[ He understands this fear. He almost can't blame Sam for feeling this way. ]

It is better to know the truth than to fear whatever it may be.

[He ran his tongue over his fangs (bracing himself a bit on the shelf from the ensuing dizziness) and considered for a long moment.

Golbez was right, of course, and this is probably the same conversation he'd have if Jared was here.

He sighed, and looke Golbez in the eyes.] You'll do whatever you have to to keep me from hurting anyone, even if you have to kill me to do it?

I will.

[ Death not being permanent here withstanding. ]

[He nods, and starts toward the back of the store, gesturing for Golbez to follow him. He'd do this somewhere there isn't other people around.]

[ Golbez follows, and once they're in the back room he puts himself between Sam and the door. Just in case. ]

[He pulls the pouch out again, and dumps it out into his hand. He fishes his bracelet out from inside of his sleeve, and hesitates briefly. He closed his eyes. He took a deep breath. Then he opened them again and hooked the charm onto the bracelet.

It hit him like a lead weight. Almost immediately he was on his knees. In his mind played how he was turned, how he came to know how his body worked, all of those times enjoying a warm meal with his brother and their new family.

His hands changed form somewhat, and his fangs grew larger. He remembered almost draining a friend dry. Being driven nearly to the point of no return by an enemy that knew to attack their enemy's support first.

But as these memories washed over him, he didn't attack or get aggressive. He remained on his knees, hunched over himself, carving claw marks into the concrete floor.]

[ Golbez tenses up when Sam drops to his knees, but doesn't move. If this is the memory he hopes it is, he doesn't want to suddenly provoke the vampire.

He waits several moments, watching Sam hunched over, clawing at the floor, before he speaks. ]

Are you all right?

[He shook his head vigorously. It's not that he's not okay, it's that he doesn't want to lose focus. It's taking a lot from him to maintain control.

But after not much longer, the portions of his life having to do with his being, with what he really was. He wasn't human. He was a vampire.

Finally, he took a few long, carefully controlled breaths. His hands reverted to normal, and he struggled back to his feet.] I'm okay...

[ Golbez steps forward to place a hand on Sam's shoulder, to help steady him. ]

That looked like quite an overwhelming memory. Do you recall now why you must drink blood?

[He did wobble a bit, but leaned into Golbez's support.] I'd nearly died when I was turned.... [His eyes are bright red, and his voice is very deliberate.] I remembered every time I drank, every time I took far more damage than I should have. [He looks at his hand with a raised eyebrow, possibly surprised that it was still attached? But then he looked back at Golbez again. He seems to carry a few more years than he had before.]

[ He looks down at Sam patiently, watching his reactions; he does seem a different man now. More mature, less unsure of himself. ]

I am glad you've remembered. Thank you for accepting the memory charm.

Is there anything I can do for you right now?

No, you smell disgusting. [So straightforward.

But then, he staggers again. His eyes are back to normal again. And he's all at once exhausted.] Fuck, I hate that. [He takes a few deep breaths and steadies himself.] Ignore anything I just said. That wasn't me. Well. The real me. It's complicated to explain.
