[ The video turns on to reveal a Jade that is grinning wider than any girl should legally be able to. She points at her hair. ]

I don't really know how long I spent on earth after all my friends got into SBURB, but I think it's close to my birthday at home. I'm fourteen! So for my birthday, I got my hair cut. I couldn't get the mats out, and I really like it short.

Dirk, will you wake me up in time for your movies? I don't want to miss them, but I want to sleep right away!

[Dave arrives and stands in front of her.]

[ Her communicator beeps and she looks up from her own private world, noticing Dave and giggling before toppling over. Her sign language is upside down but he should still be able to read it. ]

<<'Hi Dave! How are you?'>> [ And because she doesn't know the words... ]

What do you mean, flaunt?

[knightime]

[He sits down, only to start ruffling her hair like crazy.]

[ Ack! She laughs again, batting at his hand. ]

I'm older now!

[ She finally stops joking around and pulls a slim pendant out of her pocket. ] I wanted you to have this. So we could dream together. I know you've never been to Prospit, but... [ A shrug. ] It might be fun. To dream with someone else.

[knightime]

[He takes the pendant from her, slightly surprised. He had never been on Prospit. He knew the differences, but never experienced them. Derse wasn't exactly a warm, welcoming place. It was kind of dark to be honest.

He traced the word 'thanks' into her palm, just a little embarrassed.

It took him a minute or two to dig something out of his pocket. He placed in her hand, a link charm. To be exact, the link charm that went with his.]

[greenspaces]

[ She looked down at it, for a moment not quite recognizing what it was she held. And then she recognized it -- the things she'd looked at in Recette's shop -- and looked back up at Dave. There's a moment of silence, and she stares, a little bit agape. ]

Are-- are you sure? With me?

[knightime]

[Don't look at him like that! He's just slowly losing all his cool or whatever. God, he really sucks at this. Be right back, staring at his PDA like a loser. Gosh, what a loser!]

[ She thinks about it for a few more minutes, then nods. But of course, he can't see it -- so she carefully places a hand over his PDA, the other one setting aside the charm carefully before cupping his cheek. ]

Me neither. You're my best friend in the whole world.

[knightime]

[Dave: Just go with your impulse.

You sure as hell can do that. And you do. Hopefully you don't mind nose bumping a bit as Dave leans forward to kiss you. Right on the lips. Oops.]

[greenspaces]

[ She is going to giggle a little bit because bumping noses is silly!! But she finally decides that maybe it's okay to kiss back? Because that's what fourteen year olds do. They kiss people they like. ]

[knightime]

[He'd be more terrified if she didn't kiss back. But since she responded, the obvious tension in Dave's body relaxes and he slides his hands so they're resting right where her neck meets her head, thumbs brushing against her cheek.

He's not the best kisser, by far, but he's at least trying to show that he means it.]

[greenspaces]

[ She moves her hands to what she thinks might be okay kissing procedure, that is, carefully touching his face. This kiss is totally the most awkward: nose bumping and teeth hitting and Jade nervously giggling into it because wow, what are they doing?

Finally, she needs air, she she pulls away just a little bit and smiles. ]

Um.

[knightime]

[Dave just kind of drags her into his lap so he can wrap his arms around her. Whatever. Fuck Karkat's shipping chart. He likes who he likes anyways.

He just nuzzles against her, being surprisingly affectionate.]

[greenspaces]

[ O-oh Dave what are you...

Jade turns a brilliant shade of red, but leans against Dave anyway, smiling. Good thing she doesn't know about the shipping chart, or she would be pretty embarrassed. Instead, she closes her eyes and tries to figure out something to say.

Finding nothing, she settles for happy humming, some tune that was on her lunchtop. ]

[knightime]

[He keeps his face pressed against the crook of her neck, his arms wrapped tightly around her waist. He does move one hand so he can trace letters on the back of her hand.]

'Keep humming.' [He wanted to hum too, but he was content with just listening.]

[greenspaces]

[ Her hand reaches up to smooth down his hair, nodding a little. ] Okay. I can do that.

[ And she switches to a song she remembers making with Dave -- some sort of crazy turntable/bass combination with a funky rhythm. She likes this. He's warm, compared to the chilly hair, and she wonders if... ]

Can we do this every day? Just like this?

[knightime]

[He nods lightly before mouthing the words against her neck. No sound came out and she probably couldn't tell what he was trying to say, but that was okay too. He was used to it.]

"I'd like that. Yeah."

[greenspaces]

[ She doesn't understand it, but that's alright. She understands the nodding -- that's a yes -- and she giggles at how silly they must look, practically intertwined. ]

Okay. That's a promise.

[knightime]

[He just nods again, cuddling against her a bit more. He was a bit too comfortable and he didn't feel like moving when things were so nice.]

[greenspaces]

[ She is going to take this up a level and rolls into the grass, pulling him with her. Mostly because she can't sit like that much longer but also because her legs were getting tired of being cross legged. ]

I think I'd be okay with not going home, if you were here.

[ She's mostly thinking out loud now. ]

I mean, I don't really want to go home at all. But you make this place a lot better!

[knightime]

[He just rolls with her. Why not. He's cool with that.]

'Well home isn't really that great. I mean, especially for you. Right now, home is a meteor going to another session where we apparently have more things to do.'

[And he's scared. He won't admit it, but he is. There's a lot of things he doesn't know. And more people meant trickier time loops to deal with. It was scary to think about.]

'You know I suddenly spent a year not being able to talk to you or John? It pretty much sucked. I woke up and suddenly I hadn't somehow seen you for a year but it was only a few hours.'

[greenspaces]

Home doesn't exist.

[ But she doesn't want to think about that. It's scary, too. So instead she rubs her thumb against his cheek reassuringly. ]

That's sad. I hope you see them again.

[knightime]

'Sorry. Home should have been with us.'

[He means it. He just kind of nuzzles her hand, bringing her closer to him.]

'I know I will. Or some version of me will. I don't mind. Being here isn't that bad. I get to see you here and smile and laugh.'

[greenspaces]

It's okay. It had to happen, right? To make everything else right?

[ She lets him; not that they're practically on top of each other or anything. ]

But I bet I do that at home a lot, too.
