[Forward-dated: Monday afternoon] [Tower Boss #2]

This log is: open
Location: Conquest campus, starting from the tower plaza and spreading outwards.
Summary: As the Conquest Tower opens, the island enters its second boss battle. Read this if you're confused.
Warnings: Fire.

[ This battle is nowhere near as surprising as the arena wyrm's attack, but there's something fundamentally terrifying about globs of fire raining down on you from the sky that that last one didn't have. Whilst the buildings, with their sudden blue sheen, seem immune to the flames, the Players and Weapons outside of them are a tad more exposed.

The firebird is content to make regular, swooping passes at the fighters, which whilst dangerous due to its talons, puts it within range of the melee weapons. It isn't very fast, and is forced to avoid the roofs of the campus in its attacks. Its fire is only dangerous when it's directly overhead. ]

[Alex hugs Shion, petting his hair gently,] I-It's okay, Shion! W-we'll just t-try another way! I dunno i-if I c-could make it either!

[The hug just made Shion feel worse and he pressed his face into Alex's side still not wanting to face the fact he had failed. He was trembling, the fear hitting him even though he was safe now.]

[Alex moves to stand,] C-comeon, Shion! W-we'll f-find another way t-to the roof! W-we still haveta fight the phoenix! K-keep Becca safe! [He tugs on Shion, trying to get him to stand too. He was desperate, and he hated seeing Shion like this. He hated it so much, for only the second time in his time here he wished he had his powers. He wished he could eat Shion's fear and pain.]

[Keep Becca safe... they had to continue. As if to remind him a shot of fire hit nearby. Shion yelped and jumped to his feet, half clinging to Alex.] Stairs...

[Alex pats Shion's shoulder and leads him on, still holding onto his shield. He began sizing up buildings, trying to guess which ones would have a roof-top access, and to his surprise, percentages started hovering over different buildings along with floor numbers and apparent slopes of the roofs.] scheiße... D-Didn't know i-it c-could do that!

[Shion blinked, taking in the information and despite the headache it gave him he pointed to a nearby building.] That one...

[Alex nods, heading over to it and trying the door, glad that it actually opened.] O-okay, we're g-good. L-let's head up!

Okay... [He followed Alex, his confidence still gone.]

[afraid_of_my_shadow]

[Alex led him in up the stairs,] Okay! W-we c-can do this! [He was saying this for his own sake as much as Shion's.]

[Shion nodded still unconvinced] We can... [He kept following to the top.

Once they got to the top, Alex looked around for a good spot they could strike at the monster from.

Shion looked as well, though he wasn't too sure what he would do with a shield. "I think we need to go... nearer to the edge."

[afraid_of_my_shadow]

Alex nods, but looks to Shion, "Are you sure you're okay with going to the edge?" There was something about that pause and that expression that just screamed 'shadow'.

Shion paused embarrassment flooding him again but nodded. "I'm fine..."

Alex is a bit uncertain, but heads over to the edge, looking out with ease. He was used to high-rises. This was nothing.

Shion took deep breaths but was calming down now. Standing on the edge didn't scare him, he looked down at the battle. "What should we do?"

[afraid_of_my_shadow]

Alex looks up to the sky. "W-wait for it t-ta come buy, I g-guess."

Shion nodded, staying close to the edge and watching the bird. "Then what?"

[afraid_of_my_shadow]

"I g-guess, attack it, a-and let me take the b-blows." He had no issue with taking the brunt of the attack if it helped Shion.

"No!" Shion turned to stare at Alex. "I wont do that!"

[afraid_of_my_shadow]

Alex just smiles, "L-listen, I'll be fine. A sh-shield is meant to take blows. L-let me be useful. B-besides, I have Regen, s-so it won't get bad." He was glad his friends worried, but at the same time they kept him from helping in battles. He didn't like pain, no one did, and he just used it to feed his desire to take down this system like they had done at home.

Shion was still worried, he knew he shouldn't try and stop Alex from fighting but he didn't want to let him take all the blows. "I promised Becca I'd keep you safe." He stared at the fire bird trying to think of a different plan.

Alex sighed, "I-if things get too rough, w-we pull back until we c-can recover a bit. We c-can take shelter inside!"

Shion nodded, "Okay, but I wont let you get hurt!"

[afraid_of_my_shadow]

"L-let's neither of us g-get hurt!" Alex smiled, readying himself for a fight. He found himself much less apprehensive with the chance of blood being spilled in battle lower thanks to the system.
