And usually, both people just kind of know. There's not a real system to it, but usually it's several months to a year of knowing each other.
When two people are dating, they just go out to dinner, movies, maybe dance, or do other things that they both enjoy together. Usually sometime along the way you meet each other's family, and if they approve, then marriage usually follows thereafter. But that's not guaranteed of every couple going out together. Sometimes people go out and they just don't click. Then they both go find other people and try again.
