Summary: Cirno is going to find out what just happened

Cirno was just stareing at her PDA. She had come over to the lake as usual to think over the past round. It was her usual spot if she didn't have anything to do and the waters let her mind wander a bit more then she would usualy. That message had her confused as did the sender.

The system is undergoing maintenance. Please pardon any difficulties in the near future. - Kotaro

As she was stareing, That's when the penalty hit and she went down on the ground to curl up in a ball. She felt that at least this way, no one could see that this hurt her, even if she was alone. She kept that way for a while, at least ten minutes past the ending of it, nto sure if that was it or not.

As she sat up once more and reached for the blank PDA she spoke to herself mostly, "Tame ni sono nandatta no... ? Dareka ga futatabi orokana nanika o shinakatta..." 1

She looked about and frowned, "To watashi wa densha no naka de kare o mimasendeshita. ... Shin Kotaro ga modotte teniireta... Nani ga okotte iru nodeshou ka?"2

She's going to be there a while trying to figure out what is going on...

Hikaru had been lucky enough to not be using his PDA at the moment the headache hits, so he was still walking when he sees the young, blue-haired girl start to get up. Hikaru rushes over, "Daijobu? Nani ga okotta no ka?"

((Are you okay? What happened?))

[Meanwhile, a ways down the shore (but within shouting distance)...]

With rest day here, it was time for Yuka to follow up on the plans she'd made earlier in the week. Earlier that morning she'd acquired a suitable swimsuit, and now she was checking out some of the aquatic flora. So far she hadn't seen anything particularly unusual, although there was a very nice colony of watermilfoil here.

Yuka's PDA was back in her room, so she didn't notice the initial glitch. She definitely noticed when the warning penalty started.

It wouldn't have been quite as bad if she hadn't been underwater at the time.

Somehow, she managed to thrash her way to the surface, and grabbed onto a rock to ride the rest of it out.

It took a while after the pain had stopped to catch her breath. She looked warily from side to side. There was no way that had been natural.

Finally, she through her head up and shouted, "WHAT IN MINORIKO'S NAME IS GOING ON HERE?!?!"

Cirno holds her head as she sits up, looking very confused, "Itai... Nani?" She looks to the boy running up to her and responds without a second thought, "Watashi wa daijōbu yo. Sono penarutikedo. Nani ga sore o hikiokoshita? Watashi wa machigatte nani mo shimasendeshita... Watashi wa sukunakutomo watashi ga yatta to wa omowanai..."

(( Oww..What? I'm alright. That penalty though. What caused it? I didn't do anything wrong...I don't think I did at least...))

Cirno heard that shouting and took off towards it. When she spots Yuka and runs to the edge, shouting out, "Yuka! Daijōbudesuka? Nani ga okotta no ka? Sono penarutideshita ka?"

She looked very worried and upset. Something was just not right and it had her on edge now.

((Are you okay? What happened? Was it that penalty?))

Strange. Cirno's voice sounded different. Well, not really the sound, but something about the word choice and sentence structure seemed off. But she could still understand it.

"I'm alright now. It just caught me at a bad time."

Her mood was definitely ruined now. She climbed out of the lake and headed for the niche where she'd stashed her bag. "Did you feel that sudden pain too? I was looking at some of the plants in the lake when all of a sudden..."

With little regard for modesty, she took off her swimsuit and threw it over another rock. She'd swiped a towel from the dorms earlier, which she started drying herself off with.

Cirno blushed brightly and turned away. Usualy she wasn't one about modesty but she was learning, again, this place keeps teaching her things! "Un, watashi wa sore o kanjimashita. Soreha... Tsūjō no penaruti wa arimasendeshita watashi wa daremoga mina o eru tame ni naniwoshita to wa omowanai... Soshite, zero ika no mono wa akka shite iru. Nanika no machigattanode, watashi wa nani o hashiranai wa."

She is rambleing a bit, looking down at her dark PDA, "To PDA ga dōsa shite imasen. ... Naze Kotaro wa, mentenansu ni kansuru messēji o sōshin surudeshou ka?"

((Yeah I felt it. That wasn't a normal penalty..I don't think anyone did anything wrong to get everyone...and the below zero ones are worse. So something's wrong, I just dunno what.

And the PDA isn't working....Why would Kotaro be sending a message about maintenance?))

Shion hadn't been near a computer and hadn't yet bought a PDA so luckily was spared the penalty. However he blinked in confusion as all of a sudden he couldn't understand the townspeople around him.

After the manager at the pet shop where he worked waved him off looking terrified Shion walked down to the lake. There was a girl there speaking another language that sounded familiar enough but he understood none of the words.

"Hello? Can you understand me?"

((OOC: Yeah not even attempting to write this imaginary proto world language thing ;;))

Cirno turned and stared. She rubbed at her eyes and stared more before a giant smile and joyful expression came over her face, "SHION! Anata wa modotte kite imasu ka! Anata wa doko ni itta nodesu ka? Anata ga kieta toki ni bekka wa okotte ita!"

She's ignoring the fact she didn't understand a word he had said to her and charges up to him, looking ready to hug him at any second.

((You are back! Where did you go? Becca was upset when you disappeared!))

Oh! That's right. Cirno didn't remember her from before arriving here, so this would seem strange to her. Sometimes it was too easy to fall back into her usual habits...

(Although Yuka had to admit, she might have done the same thing regardless. After what happened this morning, she thought her ability to be embarrassed might have been permanently damaged.)

Either way, she was committed now, wasn't she? So she finished drying off and put her regular clothes back on.

Lacking any real ideas on the situation, she just replied, "Strange..."

And a moment later, "Kotaro?"

Cirno just nods a bit, peeking over her shoulder. When she saw that Yuka was dressed she turns back around, although still blushing a bit. "Un, subete ga okotta mae ni, watashi wa shisutemu mentenansu ni tsuite Kotaro kara messēji ga todokimashitashi, atatta. Shikashi... Watashi wa kare ga ie ni kaerimashita chi tte iru. ... Watashi wa, kare ga sōdeshita."

She frowns at the device, trying to get the power to go back on and failing. "Shikashi... Ima, watashi waatte mo koto wa monku o iwanai shigoto, sore o hyōji suru koto wa dekimasen..."

((Yeah, Before everything happened I got a message from Kotaro about System Maintenance and then got hit. But...I know he went home....I know he did.

But...Now I can't even show it, The thing wont work...))

He's speaking japanese, it's just that my knowledge of Japanese is limited.

"Penalty?" Hikaru parroted. "What penalty?" He was still new, and hadn't even started reading through the rule book.

"Un! Chōdo okotta ōkina zutsū no tane." Cirno nods as she rubs her head and frowns, "Matte... Anata mo ataranakatta no... ?" She was really confuised now. What was going on..?


((Yeah! That big headache that just happened. Somebody musta done something wrong to hit people.

Wait..Didn't you get hit too..?))

Yuka guessed that Kotaro was someone Cirno had made friends with here... Someone who'd since disappeared.

The sheer frequency with which she heard about that happening was bothering Yuka more and more. Was that sort of story common here? And just what was causing these disappearances anyway?

To the rest, Yuka could only shrug. "I don't really know much about these things... Maybe if we ask around someone might have an idea?"

It was the young man she'd talked to on the train. And apparently Cirno knew him. Well, he'd seemed pleasant enough... But this wasn't a reaction she'd expect for an acquaintance of just a week.

And she was sure he'd been speaking Japanese on the train... She wasn't sure -what- he was speaking now, but it definitely wasn't Japanese, nor any variant of English that she knew of.

Could what happened earlier have affected their ability to talk?

"Watashiniha ri ni kanatte imasu! Ikimashou!" Cirno smiled and turned, charging off and away from the lake for a moment. It does not take her long to stop and actually think on this matter.

"Ē to... Watashitachi wa dare ni shitsumon sureba īdesu ka? Watashi wa sutaffu no koto wa shiranai... Karera wa tsūjō watashitachi wa hotondo no bubun o motte iru go shitsumon o yokeru tame ni..." She slipped the PDA in a pocket and waited for Yuka to catch up. She had not gotten too far at the very least!

Yuka smiled. Always so excitable... It was pretty cute. Yuka grabbed her bag and parasol and followed along behind.

"They might be more helpful for an abnormal event like this... but then, perhaps not. I don't really know any of them well..."

"... Actually, where should we start looking? I don't know where anyone else is likely to be right now."

XD I might switch back and forth depending on my grasp on what I want to say.

"Chotto... Ore mo atarimasen." Hikaru offered a hand to help her up. "Tabun ichibu dake ga sore o eta ka?"

"Watashi wa shirimasen... Watashi wa sore ga hitto suru mae ni, watashi ga PDA ni kimyōna messēji o shutoku suru shitte iru." Cirno takes the offered hand and stands up. She quickly brushes off her dress as she tries to think of why this happened.

"Tabun dareka wa, ikamashita... Matte... Nai... Nagakatta Uda sono... Watashi wa kore o hikiokosu koto ga okotte iru nani mo kangaeru koto wa dekimasen..." She was very obviously confuised now. "Anata wa watashitachi ga naze shitte iru to omou node, nagaiai koko ni ita...."

((I don't know...I know I get a weird message on my PDA before it hit. - Maybe someone got below..Wait..no..that woulda been longer...I can't think of anything that has happened to cause this...- Been here for so long you think we would know why....))

Cirno actually gives this some thought for a moment. "Wareware wa korera no tō kara kuru mono o utsu toki ni wareware wa sutaffu kara ōku no jōhō o eru dakedesu. Dakara wareware wa tabun hoka no gakkō ni irai shinai kagiri dōsa shimasen.. ?"

The fairy crosses her arms and pouts for a second, racking her brain for any other ideas. If there was a punishment she would have known being a Prefect...right?

"Sore wa daremoga basse rarete kita tokorodeshitanaraba, watashi wa karera ga sō suru mae ni, subete no chiji ni tsutaetai nozonde irudarou.... Tabun, dai 1-raundo matawa machi no dareka kara koko ni ite dare ka? Karera wa shitte iru kamo shiremasen!" And with that, she charged off again, a determened look on her face.

((The only time we get much information from the Staff is when we beat whatever comes from those towers. So that won't work unless we ask the other school maybe..? - If it was everyone getting punished, I would hope they'd tell all the Prefects before doing so....Maybe someone who's been here since Round one or someone in town? They might know!))

Hikaru checks his, "It won't work." He thinks for a moment, "What's a penalty anyway? It would happen if someone got below what?" Hikaru was obviously confused too, and his nice-guy veneer was wearing thin. Can't this girl make a single complete sentence? God.

Shion blinked at his name, as he didn't recognise the girl coming towards him. She wasn't one of those in the memory Becca had given him. But worse he couldn't understand what she had said.

He turned and saw Yuka and smiled at her. "Yuka! I'm sorry I don't understand your friend!"

Apparently he recognized Yuka too. That was good, but other than her name she still couldn't understand anything he was saying. Although there might have been a bit that sounded familiar... but she wasn't sure. It could just be her imagination.

"Ah... do you speak English?" she asked.

The joyful look quickly dropped into pure shock. He didn't reconise her or understand her and now she could not understand Yuka! She kept looking between the two of them in a bit of a pleading and panicked look. She could not even find any words to say as she fought back the emotions that wanted to come through.

Oh! Cirno must have forgotten English. Yuka went back to Japanese. "I thought it might be worth trying English..." She frowned. "I talked to Shion a bit on the train, and he was speaking Japanese then... I don't understand this at all."

Becca was moving as soon as the penalty wore off, looking around for anyone she recognised. "Cirno!" she exclaimed as soon as she saw the other girl, rushing forward to offer her her arms in a hug. "Jesusfuck what the hell happened?"
