Gymnasium [OPEN]

Characters: Kallen Kozuki and you, obviously.
Format: Prose or action, pick your poison.
This log is: OPEN
Location: The gymnasium.
Summary: After seeing Kotarou in his condition and not wanting to let that happen (to him or anyone else she knew) again, Kallen trains. She's two+ months out of practice and if she's going to plan on protecting someone, then it's about that time. Just some image training to get her through for now. If your character wants to spar with her, just observe, or hand her a water, by all means. Just don't go through her stuff in the corner and ask what this is.
Warnings: N/A
Notes: If you know Kallen well enough, she has a little problem with her chest area. But you'll notice now that she looks a bit flatter. Thank you binding.

Kallen threw one punch after the other. It didn't matter how tired she got, it didn't matter. Kotaru was still unconscious and Haushi knocked her down with a mere push. She had been out of training for months, becoming the normal student she wanted to be. She was an "ex-terrorist", an ex-pilot, and an ex-fighter. All those things needed to change if she wanted to seek the act of protecting someone.

Swiftly, she pulled off a roundhouse kick before ducking and striking before. She could feel her moves were sloppy and not how they used to be. She would have to hone those skills now if she wanted to be what she used to be. A Black Knight. She was the ace of the team and she would use her power to protect. Except it wasn't Lelouch this time. She couldn't do that and Kallen personally left that in the hands of Suzaku. Kallen couldn't watch out for him, not like before.

For now, she would protect Kotarou whether he was aware of it or not at the moment (she told him so while he was unconscious). It was her mission now, something she sought out to do. Dressed in a tank top and short despite the weather, she was going to train.

Grenn had just had in mind to start getting more used to wearing her prostethics for a bit longer time and during more demanding exercise than normal, but the gymnasium wasn't empty. She paused a bit inside the door to study the red-headed young woman training there. It was probably not a very clever idea to throw herself into something of a full-out training immediately, but maybe there wouldn't be a chance to adjust slowly either...

"Uh... Would you like an opponent?" Grenn finally said after deliberating for a bit. She had really thought she was better with the prostethics than she was. She needed to build up her tolerance, especially as there was no chance of any alleviating drugs at all here.

The question evoked several memories, but they weren't important at the moment (but apparently nothing connected to her training had been taken, useful to know) so Grenn shook her head to dislodge those thoughts.

"I have. Our teachers considered it... Um, as one of my martial arts trainers put it 'you should have the ability, if not the opportunity' to pårotect your employer's goods'." Then Grenn paused and shrugged. That probably sounded a bit strange to the other. "There were quite a lot of trouble with pirates," she explained, and that was true enough.

"I'm going to... well, have to ask you to go slowly first. I need to get used to my... er... prostethics." Grenn said with another shrug turned the wheelchair to the side. It didn't completely shield her thighs from Kallen's view, but the point was simply to not make it too obvious how advanced the connection between articial leg and real leg were, not hide the fact that she was attaching prostethics.

Grenn felt something of a grimmer smile than usual slide over her face, especially as the nerve-connection kicked in. Soon, there was a fine line of fire from the bottom of her soles up to her brain, which heightened as she actually stood up and put her whole weight on her legs.

"Quite sure. I need to... I've worn these before, but there'd never been a real necessity in training with them. The mobility aids I'm used to can be used quite easily in a fight. There's not that luxury here," Grenn said with a shake of her head and took off the blazer, dropping it on the wheelchair's seat.

"Grenn," she nodded and walked further into the room. This was familar territory. Nothing she hadn't done before. But she had been quite firmly enlightened to the fact that running an obstacle course in your own time wasn't the same as actually fighting while wearing her legs.

"Hand to hand only?" There was surely something they could use as weapons, but Grenn would prefer to start off like this. She was quite aware that sooner or later she would probably be on the floor, attempting to clutch at a pain she couldn't reach, couldn't alleviate. Not here, not without drugs.

The pressure of the floor on her soles were both familiar and alien, the pain accompanying that pressure like a sixth sense. She could do this.

"As much as I'll ever be, I suppose," Grenn didn't know if it was right to smile or not, but then, nervousness could make you do strange things. This was just a friendly spar. There wouldn't even be holographic weapons involved, and 'Kallen' wasn't any of the names that had been on the list for Players, so no penalty pain.

Sliding into her own ready position, which was angled slightly strangely (probably due to the artificial legs, but who knew), Grenn studied Kallen for a few minutes. One of them had to start. So she did, making her move obvious and easy to counter; Grenn was sure both of them wanted to get a feel first.

It was a kick. Maybe a foolish first move considering what she was here for, but trial by fire may be necessary.

That had--- Grenn didn't even attempt to block, but rather ducked under the punch and to the side; it was a move well-honed while in her hover chair during training. She didn't bother with anything too fancy and just snapped her elbow out towards Kallen's side. She'd probably block or dodge but that was fine.

That hadn't been too bad. She hadn't used the whole strength in the kick, but more due to the fact that metal is different from flesh and bone. This was a spar, not a fight for life or death. The block had still been felt; dull thud of flesh on metal, nothing usual, but the pain had zoomed in and then radiated out, seeming independent of the basic 'touch' the block had inflicted.

Gritting her teeth, Grenn tried to stop thinking so much about that pain. It wouldn't help.

She had been distracted, so the attack hit, but while Grenn slid and swayed a bit, she pushed down her heels and stayed up. Grenn used the inadvertent slide to get a bit of distance; this could of course give Kallen a wider area to work for attack, but the same could be said of Grenn.

Tossing Kallen a slight, lopsided smile, Grenn rolled her shoulders and circled the area between her and Kallen. She needed to make that pain a part of her, not apart from her, that led to thinking on it and being distracted.

"I try," Grenn said with a smile of her own. Which was certainly true; she'd worked as hard as anyone else on the martai arts and weapons training part of their education.

Grenn was vaugely aware of a sort of fine net of pain, but that had happened during the fight against Gino too. It could be ignored, now. As at the start of the spar, Grenn decided to act first to close the distance, this time aiming to grab an arm to flip Kallen, instead of an outright attack.

This time, considering the earlier motion and that Kallen hadn't ended up exactly where she'd expected her to be, it worked. Grenn didn't, at least land on her back, but rather her stomach. Her knees were among the first limbs to hit the floor first, and suddenly there was an iron ring right there.

Kind of choking on the groan, Grenn kicked out behind her to give her some time, and did a clumsy forward roll. Clumsy more due to the fact that it had been ages since she'd done one, and while standing up was one thing, working with a lower body while lying down was different.

Getting up from the roll, Grenn realized her tongue was blaring pain. There was no blood, but she had bit herself.

Grenn shrugged, not sure what to say. Because, honestly, who would be okay with pain that the brain couldn't even temporarily shut off?

"There's unavoidable pain from the prostethics. But I need to get better about standing it. That's why I came here," Grenn finally said, briefly rubbing her forehead. One good thing; the first times she started to adjust to her legs, she got a tension headache from the pain and all the tensing she did in anticipation of it. There was still no headache.

Another practical thing was that the extra pain from overloaded nerves went away as quickly as it came; things were back to the 'I am standing on a floor' pressure and the regular pain associated with that.

Grenn shook her head and made a sweeping gesture with one hand.
"Already am. It's all these sudden spikes which will happen during the battles..." Grenn snapped, she couldn't help it. She liked Kallen, but did the other woman really believe she wasn't used to something like that? Hadn't already gotten used to the regular use of the prostethics?

"Sorry," Grenn says with a shrug as she follows Kallen's example. "But I really need to get on top of this..." She stops with a grimace, though, because she's probably gonna end up on the floor at the end. But that will simply have to happen, then. She needs to know how long she can handle this.

Hikaru's not staring or anything, honest. But the fact remains that he himself is a little out of practice, so it was only a matter of time before he found himself in the gymnasium himself. It's just a coincidence that they happened to feel this need at the same time.

And seriously. Damn, Kallen, you've got some moves.

"Having fun?"
