backdated to [Round 2, Rest Day]

Characters: Yuka Osada, Sora Himoto
Format: whatever works!
This log is: closed (unless you want to come watch sword training, idk)
Location: Gym
Summary: Yuka attempts to figure out how exactly one uses a sword.
Warnings: none at time of posting

After hearing from Kallen that you could actually train with your Weapon before a real battle, Yuka had gone to find Sora to ask for some practice. It wasn't so much that she really wanted to win her match the next day, but she didn't want to make a complete fool of herself, or accidentally hurt herself, Himoto-san, or her opponent because she didn't know what she was doing. Plus Himoto-san had been so nice in volunteering to help her, and she'd feel terrible if she lost the fight right away after that. She knew she probably couldn't become good at fighting in just one day, but she could at least...not be completely incompetent, surely.

So the two of them made their way to gym (hopefully there wouldn't be as many people in there?), and over to a good empty spot. (And Yuka tried not to think too much about gyms and basketball teams and if this place took memories away why couldn't it take that one?)

She turned to look at Sora and frowned slightly. "So do you just...pull the sword out?"

Sora turned back towards Yuka from where she'd been looking around the empty gym, and nodded cheerfully. She'd made sure the other girl had brought her glove in a rare moment of organisation, so there wouldn't be any problems with drawing her weapon.

"At our academy, we used to say a phrase to draw the weapon. It was kind of cool... 'Utopia is here!'" She gestured along with the words automatically, hand moving out towards Yuka in a dramatic sweep, then realised what she was doing and pulled her arm back to ruffle the back of her head sheepishly.

"Ah, but that's not necessary here, I don't think..."
allurprincess: (this is even better than the first plan!)

"It's okay," Sora took a step too, so they were closer still, and took Yuka's gloved hand in hers. As it neared her chest, the familiar light began to blaze. "Don't worry about hurting me-- Oh! If you pull from the side, it won't hit you when it comes out, though..."
allurprincess: (herp?)

Unfortunately, Sora was one of the few people in the school who found the process entirely normal, so she wasn't much help in that respect. She did blink at the star that flickered at its tip, though. It faded after a few seconds, as did the glowing boxes of text scattered around it.

"Lucifer. But... that symbol?" What about it? It felt important somehow. She frowned, brow creasing a little, but shook it off as her memories went blank again. Save it for later. "You did it, Yuka!"
allurprincess: (ohhhhhh.)

"Like this!" After the experimental stage came the 'Sora is overly helpful' stage, and she jumped into it with gusto. She ducked away from the blade as she came to stand next to Yuka, and covered the girl's hands with her own to move the sword around. "Diagonally, see? That's what Karin always got me to start with."

Swish, swish, slash.
allurprincess: (but I'm not that helpful really)

"Yep!" She let go of Yuka's hands after several repetitions, stepping back to give her room again. Not enough room, probably, because Sora wasn't particularly experienced with teaching people, but she was trying. "He was here for a little bit, but..."

Well, she didn't know. He'd just vanished one day.
allurprincess: (oh you and your insecurities)

Exaclan weapons went through clothing and skin like they were air, so Sora had never faced that problem. The only thing that could block them was another weapon. It didn't matter how hard you swung it, as long as you actually hit. It was kind of scary, if she stopped to think about it. So she didn't.

"Yeah, and some of the other boys from my school. Reiko too. A lot of people I care about left." Her smile was sad, but present. They were here to help Yuka, after all. "I just have to believe that they're okay."

She stepped out of the way of the blade once Yuka began trying different swipes and swings, but stayed so she was close enough to talk comfortably.

"That's what I'm worried about. I guess it's hard to believe, but it was better for them here."

"Our school is run by Iwahijiri," she'd apparently forgotten, again, that people she'd never met didn't know about the corporation. "It's not a nice place for anyone, girls or boys."
