Warnings: Copious amounts of angst (what can I say? Angst is fun!)
Euphemia had not been at breakfast, well Suzaku did not think she had been at breakfast. She hadn't came and talked to him anyways, she usually did because she knew that Suzaku didn't recognise her so couldn't approach her. He had even asked a few people who he knew knew her and none of them had seen her.

He had asked Mei who had told him that Euphemia hadn't been in bed when Mei had woken. That was strange and so Suzaku was entering Red Dorm to see if she had returned to her room. He knew something was up the moment he entered, it was empty. He moved over to Euphemia's bed there were two objects on it, a charm that Suzaku recognised as a memory charm and a ring. Suzaku went cold and hoping that this didn't mean what he thought it might. Feeling slightly worried he opened the cupboard above the bed, it was empty.

She was not the first one, which was why Suzaku had guessed, people had been disapearing all week. He had seen the girl who dissapeared before everyones eyes in the tournament. All Euphie's things were gone, there was a charm and a ring on her bed....

It hit him... Euphemia was gone... he sat down heavily. He was trembling, she couldn't be gone... she couldn't be... She had been here yesterday, they had spoken and now...

Absantly he picked up the charm, all at once he wasn't in the room in the Red dorm but outside, on grass. Lelouch was there, younger than he had been when Suzaku had met him, and Nunnally, Nunnally walking towards another girl who it took Suzaku a moment to realise was Cornelia, a child Cornelia. They laughed and all of a suddon Suzaku was back in the Red Dorm.

Euphie was gone, yet the charm he was holding in his hand, that was part of her. Her memory, it was in his mind now, like his own memories. Trembling he picked up the ring, it had a symbol on it but he didn't know what it meant. He slipped it on to his finger anyways, it was Euphies. And Euphy was gone.

He was still numb; he had lost Euphemia before and this time she had just disapeared, it was still unreal to him, he stumbled out the room and through the partly opened door into the room oposite saw a flash of red hair. Sora.

"Sora... Euphie, she's gone..." He didn't know why he blurted it out at her, just he knew her and she was there and he had to tell somebody. He blinked away tears.

Sora had slept in that morning. When she'd woken up, the room was empty, the sun was high in the sky and she was both sleepy and confused. Why hadn't Yuki woken her up? Or at least left a note... When she managed to roll out of bed, the answer was clear. Yuki's bed was spotless, sheets and covers clean and neat without a single fold, and the familar glint of silver had caught Sora's eye from the pillow.

No. Not another one. Not Yuki. She'd stumbled over to the bed to scoop up the charm and the ring, and fell to her knees as the memory hit her.

Surprise, a half-spoken apology cut off by red hair and a worried smile. A smile so close to her photo. This was her, the girl chosen to be a Player, the girl who had the ability to end Iwahijiri's reign of torment. She didn't look special, not really, didn't look like she'd trained, or like she was anyone but a smiling, bright teenager, but wasn't that enough? Hope.

"Whoops! Are you okay?"

She ran.

Yuki had run. Sora had wordlessly clipped the memory to her bracelet, tears filling her eyes and making her vision swim, and then Suzaku had spoken from the doorway. She tried a smile, but it came out wrong, wobbly, and when she spoke it was with a hitch in her voice. "I'm sorry... Yuki's gone too."

"First Karin and Reiko, and Shoujou..." Sora placed one of her hands over Suzaku's, the memory - Yuki's memory - still fresh in her mind. Everyone had had so much hope that she would save them, that she would be the knight of justice they'd been waiting for. Why was this academy any different? They had gone, but she was needed here just as much. She stared at the bed for a few moments more, until the lump in her throat had started to disappear, and blinked rapidly to clear her eyes.

Suzaku got another smile, stronger this time.

"They're strong. I believe in all of them, so... it'll be okay. Everyone needs us here, and then when we free them, I'll go back and I'll help them again." Her fingers tightened over his, and she repeated, "I believe in them. And I believe in Euphie, too. I'm glad I met her!"
allurprincess: (oh you and your insecurities)

"Yeah..." Sora half-turned and stood, so she was facing Suzaku with his hand still held in hers. "Thanks, Suzaku," she hesitated for bare seconds, because whilst she desperately wanted to go and find the others, she shouldn't just leave him. And without her memories, she'd never find anyone alone. An idea struck, and she nodded to herself. "Let's go to Black dorm? Lelouch will be there."

Lelouch had already discovered Rolo's disappearance by the time the pair of knights arrived. He was standing near his desk, adjusting his uniform collar. While he looked unmoved, his mind was a tumult. Rolo's memory hung on his bracelet with his own and ring placed alongside his own. He would gladly carry them in tribute to his brother. His young brother, corrupted and turned into an assassin by the empire. Just another sin he knew they would answer for.

He looked to them when they entered. "Suzaku, Sora," stated coldly as a greeting. Suzaku would recognize the excessive chill as a mask for something else bothering him.

He smirked slightly. "Rolo has gone." He said simply. Of course Suzaku saw through him. He gestured to the boy's unused bed. "But why are you here?" They usually met up later on in the day.
allurprincess: (you want to what?)

"Rolo-- Your friend?" Sora joined them unselfconsciously, glancing over at the empty bed. She remembered a quiet boy at mealtimes, always with Lelouch or watching him. A boy who looked so much like Shoujou that she'd almost gone to speak to him several times before she realised her mistake. He'd seemed nice. "So many people..." Ah, but Lelouch wouldn't know. She took his hand in hers with all the implacable sympathy of a friendly hurricane. No resisting, no mercy. All the sympathy. "Lelouch, Yuki and Euphie are gone too."

"My brother," he corrected quickly. But at the news, his look hardened. He was furious at being teased with the presence of the dearly departed only to have them taken from him again. "And Nunnally?" He pulled his hand out of Sora's. While he had no reason to mistrust her, she was an outsider all the same.

DON'T MOVE, I'M TAGGING WITH KOTAROU NEXT

Sora looked between the two of them for the moment, the need to find Koharu and Tomoko pulsing hot within her. They'd be okay now they were together, right? And she wanted answers. Where could she-- Ah!

"I'm going to ask at the desk," Sora announced, all of a sudden. "Suzaku, Lelouch, don't worry, okay? I'll definitely find out what happened!"

And whoosh, with a final brave smile and burst of radiated belief in herself and everyone around her, she was off.

TAG TEAM GO

And as she left, the knight nearly mowed down Kotarou. He stopped in the doorway and flinched, and she spun around him with a "Sorry!" and a flare of scarlet hair. For a moment, he stared after her and grumbled, still braced for the collision that never came, and then a glance at his cupped hands reminded him why he was here. Suzaku hadn't been in their room. That meant he'd probably be in the room opposite, with him. He gave Lelouch a sulky look of kiddy dislike, and ran up to the knight instead.

"Ichi's gone!" He held out the two pieces of jewellery in his hands, "See? These were on her bed! What's going on?"

He didn't look fazed by Kotarou's disdainful look and subsequent snub. But he was definitely considering what the boy had to say. Rolo, Euphemia, Molly, Road, Ichi, and Yuki. Did they have anything in common? Was it a trick of the hologram system? Or did whatever bring them here send them back, intentionally or otherwise?

"What's been left behind is a memory charm and one of her upgrades," he explained to the boy. The usual edge of arrogance wasn't in his voice, and he sounded downright sympathetic to what the boy was going through. The look on his face was still stony and cold, though. "It's your decision whether you should bear them or if you believe there is someone else here Ichi would find more suitable." He saw these leavings as something of a legacy, to be carried by one most closely connected to the departed individual. Euphemia's was safe in Suzaku's care.

"Huashi's still eating," he said this with the utmost confidence, before Lelouch answered him and he scowled. His tone at least had Kotarou less wary, and he looked back down at the gems again with fresh surprise.

"Suitable?" His hands closed over them. "There's no-one else! I'll keep them safe for her."

Lelouch understood what Suzaku was doing when he passed the charm over. He accepted it, and let the memory move into his mind. It was pleasant, indeed. He was glad that his own memories of Aries hadn't been touched. Nunnally running and laughing on the grass there. Even the events in the World of C and the truths discovered there couldn't taint this. After relishing it for a moment, he attached it to his own bracelet. He glanced over to Suzaku after he did. If he didn't object, he considered it in his keeping.

"Then they're yours to carry," he told Kotarou. "Take good care of them." He even offered a small smile. Euphemia's memory had clearly done much to improve his mood.
