Climb That Tower!

Characters: Mei, Gaara, and... Romeo?
Format: Action, bb.
This log is: Semi-closed; not opposed to a fourth or so person hopping in, just ask!
Location: The humming tower!
Summary: People with mad climbing skillz try to figure out what is up with this tower thing.
Warnings: ...beware the ninja and small things.

[Since there was no requirement for battles this round, Mei found herself alternating between two states of being. A) Plotting everyone's defense against the "sky" and B) exploring the campus. Sure, there were classes, but something about being taught by the enemy was grating. Constantly glaring at the sky that she couldn't properly see with all the cloud cover was a little boring, too.

So!

She had picked choice B for the day. Her wandering took her right past the tower and the hum got her to stop. That was new. She knew none of them had ever made that noise before. Had the blackout broken something? First Mei had tried prying the doors open, but they wouldn't budge. Tenacious as always, the child looked for another route in.]

Ah! The windows! It must have windows! [Mei clenches a fist] No one remembers to lock every window!

[That in mind, she turns away from the tower and dashes back a fair distance. She needs momentum and that calls for a good run up to the tower wall. Mei turns back around.]

Ready!

[She drops into a runners crouch, fingertips against the ground.]

Set!

[Aaaand...]

[Romeo had been checking the towers like he did everyday to report any differences to Grenn, however there didn't seem to be any. Only one tower still was humming and it wasn't louder and more strange, it was just the same. Usually there was no one there, but today Romeo spotted a figure dashing backwards from the tower and realised he knew her.]

Mei! [It was one of the girls who had started the group of children, he wondered what she was doing, she looked like she was about to run at the tower...]

What are you doing Mei?

[oddly enough, Grenn is the reason Gaara has been investigating the towers too. Except this one has people next to it. Not to mention it's still making that low hum.

ohi Romeo and small girl he doesn't know.]

G--

[Oh, hey, a Romeo. Mei's dash towards the tower never begins, thanks to this distraction. She stands back up.]

Hi Romeo! I'm going to try and find a window that isn't locked, so I can see what is making that noise!

Oh [A grin for Mei] It's been humming since last week, miss Grenn doesn't know why. [Mei's idea is good though, maybe the answer is inside.]

I'll come with you! [He spots Gaara and recognises him from the day of the thunderstorm] Oh hello sir! Are you here to look at the tower as well?

[this idea of yours is a terrible idea, but so was Grenn's, and other than the odd curse, it gave them information.

So, sure. Wevs, the kazekage joined your party. ]

I am.

Will you be able to keep up?

[Mei doesn't know that the other kid is, by profession, a very good climber, so she can worry. The next member of the motley crew that appears is someone she is not familiar with. Gaara gets a curious glance.]

Hello! You are? Good! The more people checking windows, the faster it will go!

[Since Romeo seems alright with whoever this is, she is immediately not suspicious. He is automatically added to the team. Yes. Just like that.

GAARA HAS BEEN RECRUITED.

RENAME GAARA?

NO?

Alright then!]

Okay, everyone! I'll take the front of the tower!

[And without further ado, there she goes, dashing off towards the tower at full tilt.]

Of course! [After all he was a Black Brother, chimney sweep and climbing was what they did best! He grinned at Gaara again glad that he was going to come and help them.]

I'll take the back then! [He dashes off as well but stops when he arrives at the base of the tower, and begins to climb carefully. It's different than climbing a chimney, he can see for one thing and that makes him go faster. Also there's no soot to make him cough or irritate his eyes. He makes steady progress up to the first window.]

If you can't climb any further, or think you might fall, shout.

[and so that leaves one of the sides. After a moment of study, he chooses the left, slightly further from the gate, and out of sight of the path. A run-up of his own later, and he's off.]

[Mei hits the tower and keeps running, straight up, making a mad lunge for a window ledge before gravity tries to reverse the wallclimb. HaHA! Take that, physics.]

Phew. Alright, let's see...

[The girl tries to jimmy the window open, but it doesn't work. Hm. She turns to lean against the window so not to fall and pulls her sash off of her shoulder. Wrapping that around a little hand, she turns back towards the glass and hangs on to something.

Leeeeaning back, aiming for a pane, aaaand--]

OW!

[ffffff not a good idea]

[Romeo cannot run up walls unfortunatly but he is making a steady pace, one hand, one foot, one hand and soon he was at the first window. It didn't open and Romeo frowned looking around until he found something to hang on to. Gritting his teeth he swung out and fired himself at the window, trying to shoulder it open.]

Owwwwwww

[He swung backwards hanging onto the small ledge with all his strength. Well that didn't work.]

[he would have headed around to the first shout of pain, but when one comes from the other side of the tower too and neither sound particularly desperate, he continues confirming that, yes, this first window cannot be opened.

Up to the next one.

And so on and so forth.]

[The next window, the one after that, and the one after that-- you get the picture. Mei can't find a single window she can get open. The glass won't even break, not even crack!

Soon enough, she has climbed her way to the very top of the tower, irritated to no end. She perches on the corner of the roof and huffs.]

It's locked tight! How can there be no way in at all? We need to know what it's up to!

[being perched on the edge of the roof himself, next to a small tiger-shaped gargoyle, Gaara has other things to worry about.]

Look up. Does that mean anything to you?

[because if you look directly upwards from the tower, there's a faint star symbol flickering red in the sky.]

[None of the windows opened, Romeo sighed as he slowly climbed to the top of the tower. Not being a ninja, he had been slower than the other two and so was last on the roof, just in time to hear Gaara's words. He gave a small gasp and looked at the other two fearfully.]

It's the star from the dreams, except smaller. [He frowned and looked back toward Gaara and noticed what he was stood next to. He went pale and pointed.]

A tiger.... it's a tiger, and a star just like the dream. [He looked worried, glancing around at the gargoyles expecting them to come alive and eat him, or set him on fire.]

[Well, the first thing to come to HER mind upon looking up was 'THE THING ABOVE US IS CHARGING UP AN ATTACK OH NO'. Thankfully, Romeo spoke up first. This distracted her from the once impending freakout.]

A star?

[Mei looked up. She knew of the tiger, but she had been 'tagged out' of that nightmarish round before it had arrived. Stars, though, well, she couldn't recall any stars.]

What about stars in the dream? I only remember some weird story...

Round Zero... [he hasn't heard much, no one really seems to remember much, or they simply don't want to talk about it. But if the boy - Romeo - knows, then-]

What happened in the dream?

[At the mention of the dream Romeo pales a little again, he doesn't like thinking about the dream but he gathers himself to explain to Gaara, because it might be useful.]

Everyone died, except everyone killed each other, except they killed themselves... and then then there was a tiger and it set things on fire with his eyes.

[He paused, Grenn had said it wasn't a real tiger but a huge version of all tigerness put together. Which sounded suspiciously like there were other tigers with fire eyes out there. Romeo glanced suspiciously at the gargoyles.]

Then there were voices, and the towers were humming like this one, but louder and that... [He pointed up at the star] Was huge, across the whole sky and there was a story, about a knight and a sage and... [Quick pause for thinking.] A demon king.

[It IS still unsettling to think about, but the more time put between Mei and those memories, the more she has been able to pass it off as not possibly real. Even so...

She still shudders just recalling her death during that nightmare.]

Shadows... shadows killed everyone. I don't think I made it to the part with the tiger. [She stands up and folds her arms. Hrm.] Didn't it tell us to find a sage? Except the only people acting as sages are those silly receptionists with these stupid riddles.

[he stays sitting, resting against the side of the tiger statue. Thinking about everything they're remembering]

... They aren't sages. A sage is someone wise. Experienced, teaching and guiding others. [he almost reaches for his memory bracelet, and Sakura's charm, but only almost. He can remember the Lady Chiyo on his own. Lord Jiraiya, too. And less benevolent sages.] Do you know anyone here like that?

[Romeo nods, a sage, he had no idea what a sage was but he didn't think the receptionists were any help, they always smiled and ignored your questions. He listened to Gaara with a thoughtful look on his face, someone eise, experianced. A teacher. Like Doctor Casello maybe?]

Well there's teachers? Do they count? [He thinks again thinking of the people he knows.]

Miss Grenn teaches me things all the time, but she doesn't know whats in the towers either. Mister Sherlock's also really clever but he doesn't know either. [He sighs because they are the two cleverest people he knows and if they don't know...]

No. The teachers don't count. They're the enemy.

[It doesn't matter that they aren't obviously malicious.]

And really dull, at that, so they can't be very wise. Um. [Mei thinks a little longer, then sighs.] I can't think of any really wise people here, either...

They could be in hiding, or disguised. If they know how to escape the academy... [well. He trails off grimly. There is very little chance that their captors would let someone with that information roam free. They could even be imprisoned.]

Or stuck somewhere.

[Mei's thoughts went immediately to the tower. It was impossible to break into it! She looked down at the roof, staring intently, as if she could just will the barriers away and see what's in there.

She can't, of course, but wow, does she wish she could.]

Or... um... one of the other students, but we'd have to sort them all out in that case.

You think they might be imprisoned in the tower? [This is starting to sound like a fairy tale. He thinks as Mei and Gaara debate who the sage could be.]

I don't think it will be one of the students... unless... [He frowns thoughtfully] Unless it is a student and they have had the memory that they are the sage taken from them! That way they wouldn't need to be locked up!

Restoring the memories of every student in the academy will take weeks, and the tower is locked. We won't find an answer now.
