Summary: Lelouch finally wakes up

He'd slept uneventfully, only occasionally getting a bit restless in his sleep. Once or twice he could be clearly heard mutering Nunnally's name during one of these fits. But eventually, early in the morning, he finally woke up. His eyes blinked open, and he raised a hand to his forehead. He remembered keenly the searing pain as the laser had hit him, and it seemed a significant portion of that pain still remained.

He pushed himself up with his other hand, and looked around the room, expecting to see Suzaku with him. "Has it been three days?" he asked, his voice a little rough.

While Lelouch got changed there was a knock on the door and Suzaku answered it, it was a nurse with a plate of food. By the time Suzaku had closed the door Lelouch was dressed and talking.

"I'll make one, I'll ask Sora, but it can wait while you eat." Suzaku gestured pointedly to the seat, Lelouch had been in a coma for three days, he had to eat before they did anything.

Two could play at this game, he decided. While he straightened his hair in the mirror, he noticed the difference in his eyes. They were back to normal. But he looked at Suzaku's reflection in his mirror, a bit of a smirk playing at his lips. "Oh? And what about yourself?" If he knew Suzaku at all, it was that he hadn't left his bedside in a fit of self-pity. And it was quite difficult to tell which of the pair of them was more obstinate than the other.

Suzaku frowned, "I'm not hungry, I'm not the one who was in coma," no I'm just the one who failed to stop Gino putting you into a coma. He looked down his chearful smile fading and tried a different tact.

"You wont be able to bring anything down if you don't eat..."

"'An army marches on its stomach'?" he commented idly. He'd gotten to a place in another version of Earth's history where a few wars turned out quite different, especially those considering a certain French conqueror. It was interesting to say the least. It explained why the Empire did not exist in the same way in other worlds. It was just as well.

"Then I suppose we'll have to share," he said as he went back to sit on the side of the bed. He picked up the piece of toast, ripped it in half, and held the other half out to Suzaku.

Suzaku looked at Lelouch with a raised eye brow wondering where he had found that particular quote. He sighed and sat down next to Lelouch. He was too relieved that Lelouch was awake, and too mentally exhausted from the last few days to be stubborn enough to argue. He took the half of the toast and bit into it, as food hit him he realised just how hungry he was and had finished it in no time.
