Yes, the school name and the name Exaclan is the same, and so are the rules of the games, except for the part about tokens.

You mean were they taken? No, they enrolled, but before coming they didn't know about the game.

And yet, I suspect the Players were willing enough. It seems obvious on the surface that the memory loss is an incentive.

The Players enjoyed the power, I suppose. Yes, gaining memories would be an incentive to fight, but only if you realize you've forgotten. If you don't realize that anything is missing, then maybe it's not important and you don't need it, then you don't need to fight.

I can think of any number of circumstances under which remembering the taste of cinnamon might be critical. But then, I make it my business to know everything.
