In the event that anyone decided to go for a little stroll in the courtyard, they may or may not stumble upon someone sitting on one of the benches, staring at the plants laid out before him with an intense look of concentration on his face. It's not the usual kind of face one would use while regarding flowers, after all. Most people would be like, oh, how pretty they are. Hikaru Sulu, on the other hand, is staring at them like they just ate his sandwich.

And he worked damn hard on that sandwich.

The thing is, Hikaru doesn't actually recall what any of the names of the flowers laid out in front of him are. Things like roses, daisies and daffodils escape him, as do more of the intense ones, like caladiums and heliotropes and manchineels. Well, actually, all of them escape him. Every last one. And while this wouldn't bother most guys, it's kind of hard to be a part-time botanist when you don't even remember what a damn tulip is. It's proving to be far more frustrating than it has any right to be.

(Also, he's still not entirely sure what the year is. But that's okay, he's more concerned about the flowers at the moment because they still pose the promise of some small amount of sanity.)

(Not to mention he may or may not have had some issues with his shoes this morning but he's pretty sure he's got them on right.)

And for what?

It's called a feign.

It's called playing right into their hand.

I'm not disputing it being a dangerous move, but rebelling completely doesn't always work. Whereas getting closer to the enemy is usually more of an impact. [ strategic!Sulu is a go. he is a member of the tactical team, after all. ]

Believe me, if I were to rebel, you would know.

[She looks at him again, more intently now and takes a good look at his face.]

Are you sure you're all right? Your face... it's...

Oh, this? [ touches his face lightly. ] This was just a fight. it's nothing.

Seems like a pretty big nothing to me.

He was pretty big. And sadly unfortunate.

We should probably get you to the infirmary though. You can tell me about it on the way?

[ well he didn't get a chance to see McCoy before getting sucked into this whole thing, and said Doctor would have a conniption if he knew Sulu was walking around unchecked, so... ] Alright.

[She turns her back and starts to walk]

I'm Kallen, Kozuki Kallen. [Feel special. You're the first person she introduced herself in the case where she included her last name.]

[ he makes a very obvious effort to keep a respectable distance. you seem like the kind of person who'd dropkick him for being too close even if he had no intentions whatsoever. ]

Hikaru Sulu.

[As long as you don't attack or try to touch her inappropriately, there shall be no dropkicking. Keeping your distance might be wise cause Kallen still doesn't have the whole bra thing down.]

Pleasure to meet you.

And you, Ms. Kozuki. [ no worries, Sulu is as respectful as they come. he may defrost a little as he gets to know you, but for now he is strictly business. ]

Kallen's fine.

Kallen, then. [ he offers a small smile. ]

[She smiles back and she continues to lead him out]

Sorry about befiore. Guess I'm still on edge about being here. I didn't mean to take it out on you.

We're all pretty on edge. To be honest it'd be a lot more worrying if we were all completely cool with it.

I feel like the only person that is not "cool" with what's going on.

I'm only playing along because I think it's necessary in order to gain information and trust.

That's a way of looking at it.
