John thought about it, on Sunday, and decided that even a week of not being able to hug or poke or tap one of his friends on the shoulder was too much. Why did both Jade and Dave have to be Players?

Well, they'd been sneaking out better food for him, and even if he really couldn't do anything but chill in his room, or Dave's room, or Jade and Vriska's room, it was ok. He could touch his friends and not get hurt for it.

Today (whichever day today is), at this meal (whichever meal this is), he's just sitting at the Discard table, picking at the bland icky food he's forced to eat and looking rather content with his lot, everything aside.

He wouldn't turn down any conversation.

She sends the text message before plopping down next to John, taking his porridge and attempting to swap it out with her own bowl of fruit. Jade frequently eats whatever's on the discard menu, even though she can eat anything she wants; the blander food sits better with her stomach, after so many months of not eating at all. She can still only eat a few bites of whatever it is she wants, so her portions are small and frequent for now. Still, she's looking a little healthier, the cuts on her hands healing up even if she's still as scrawny as ever.

Fumbling a little, she spells out <<'Good morning!'>> because she hasn't yet learned the term for it, only the letters. Facing John, she speaks again. "You can have my orange, okay?"

Dave sticks his tongue out at both of them. Dave usually didn't even eat this early. Usually because he was either not awake early enough to actually eat breakfast or because he was running late for school. So really, eating this early wasn't usually even in his schedule normally.

He contemplates texting again, but shoves his PDA back in his pocket. His signing is still rather clumsy at the moment, as he still seems a little out of it. He's apparently awake enough to be stubborn though.

He let's out a long yawn, knocking his shades a bit as he rubs his eyes. Both of them had way too much energy in the morning to be considered normal.

John scowls and elbows Dave lightly. He doesn't actually sign anything, but his meaning is clear. "EAT SOMETHING DOUCHEBAG".

But fine, whatever, he's just going to go back to Jade and her stealing of his porridge. He bumps his shoulder lightly against hers and smiles, shooting her a thumbs up and grabbing her orange. Will he get in trouble? Eh, maybe, but only if a prefect notices or someone else gives a shit.

And this moment, right here, is why he couldn't be anything but a Discard this round - sitting here with both of his friends on either side of him, not having to worry about not touching when touch is honestly a big part of how he communicates - especially with Dave, but with Jade as well, half consciously because he feels like she should be reminded as often as possible that they're here and not leaving.

Jade isn't exactly sure what he said in sign language; she's still not the best, only knowing a few phrases and the alphabet. "What did you say? Are you going to eat?" The look she gives him is so expectant that hopefully, should he have any pity left in his heart, he'll take a bit of whatever's on his plate.

She grins at John, bumping him with her shoulder a little bit. "We'll tell them I forced you to take it, okay? So then they can't argue. Are you going to class today?"

And Dave can't say no to that face. Especially when he knows that for a long time, she didn't really have food. And, god damn it, he's too weak.

He starts stabbing at his eggs with his fork. Of course he needs to mutilate his scrambled eggs more then they already are. If that's even possible. While he goes through his routine of obliterating his food, he's texting with his free hand.

John bumps Jade right back and then salutes before starting to peel the fruit in question. OM NOM NOT PLAIN PORRIDGE.

When Dave starts stabbing his eggs, John recognizes the food-mutilation for what it is - a pre-eating ritual - and smiles triumphantly. Good, Dave will eat, Jade's eating, and John won't have to fuss over either of them for now.

half of them aren't even useful.
but we get paid for going, so i probably will.

It's only a matter of time before John gets fed up with classes and starts going only if he absolutely has to. But for now, he's still going.

"I like classes. Bar fighting helped me win a battle." She giggles a little bit at Dave's merciless attack on his scrambled eggs. "Dave, you're supposed to eat them. They're already dead."

As for her own porridge, she puts a small bit into her mouth and then grins. Delicious, at least to her. Still, after only a few more bites, she sets the spoon down.

He freezes up a bit. Maybe...he should stop? But he's always done this with his food. Huh...did it bother her that he did it?

Usually no one really says anything about it, since they usually dismissed it as some strange kid thing, so being called out on it was always kind of awkward. He wasn't sure if it was a good or bad reason. Dolorosa asked about it before, but she didn't seem to mind. Jade wouldn't mind either?
