John thought about it, on Sunday, and decided that even a week of not being able to hug or poke or tap one of his friends on the shoulder was too much. Why did both Jade and Dave have to be Players?

Well, they'd been sneaking out better food for him, and even if he really couldn't do anything but chill in his room, or Dave's room, or Jade and Vriska's room, it was ok. He could touch his friends and not get hurt for it.

Today (whichever day today is), at this meal (whichever meal this is), he's just sitting at the Discard table, picking at the bland icky food he's forced to eat and looking rather content with his lot, everything aside.

He wouldn't turn down any conversation.

He would be correct in that assumption, she is new. And now she is very confused of what he does not speak, being from where she is from she can only assume that he had his tongue removed, making John either a bad person or someone with a cruel King.

It takes her a while to read the text on the screen, it's not that she isn't a fluent reader (she is) but the PDA is far more advanced than anything she's ever seen before.

"Why not align yourself with a Player, then?" she asks as she returns the PDA to him, "Could you perhaps tell me what that device is?"

John's patient, and if she asks, he'll be more than happy to tell her why he doesn't speak. As it is, he just watches her intently until she speaks, and then types some more.

i couldn't just pick one!
even if i didn't mind picking one to vow with, i wouldn't be able to touch the other one at all for the whole week.
i figured i'd rather deal with being a discard than that.
and this is a pda! it's a... communicator thingy.
i use it 'cause it's easier than carrying a pen and paper around.

He hands it back after a pause to actually type all that, and takes the opportunity while she's reading to shovel some more of the porridge down. At least it's not rotten or anything?
