A. [Sam is busily straightening the bookstore, dressed more casually than normal, with the typical bookstore-y ID lanyard on his neck. He rather likes the job, having never needed a part-time job before even when he had been living with his parents. He wouldn't say his life was harder now than it was, just different.

He wasn't too far in la-la land, though. When someone comes up, he gives them a nice smile, (careful not to show too much fang).] Hi! Can I help you find anything?

B. [Well, his bookishness sometimes gets the better of him. He'd happened across a text on troll biology, and he really couldn't help himself. Now he's holding up a shelf in the corner, focused on reading. Come bug him.]

[He jumps a bit, and turns a bit pink.] Ah, Miss Dolorosa. [Oh geez she's a headmistress and she caught him slacking off, was he in trouble? He hoped she was better than Day.] Well, different biology in general. It just kind of caught my eye.

[No, Sam, you're not in trouble. She wouldn't punish someone for reading, that would be cruel.]

Well we are different species, it is amazing out body types are so similar as it is, don't you think it natural for our biology to differ?

[bloodbrother]

[No warning, good good.] Yes, of course. There are quite a few differences that I hadn't expected, and some similarities that would only makes sense for humanoids.

--Er, did you need help finding a book? I'm technically supposed to be working.

May I ask what surprised you the most? And no, I just enjoy being in here from time to time, but thank you, if I need assistance at a later date I will come to you.

In humans, blood tends to take on different shades from bright red to an almost blue hue, depending on its oxygenation level. Yet, it's completely normal to never leave one end of that range or the other, or get into colors that don't exist in nature.

Well. On Earth, anyway.

Oh yes, the hemospectrum is always interesting to humans, the possibility of different blood colors seems to amaze them. I find that humans often judge trolls for the hierarchy that is associated with the hemospectrum, but do you not have the same thing for skin color?

[bloodbrother]

It's not so much a caste system, but there's discrimination certainly. Between and even within groups. I suppose the color of blood seems exceptionally arbitrary to humans, along the lines of hair color or eye color.

[mamarosa]

I see. There is discrimination between blood classes as well, luckily I am on the higher end of the spectrum and did not have to deal with such problems while I was younger, that did change but I do understand what you are saying.

[bloodbrother]

In my work, I specifically focus on the unique needs of vampire biology. I'm sorry to ask so suddenly like this, but would you mind if I took a sample of your blood to analyze myself? I'm very curious about it. [He looks a little sheepish, and he's turning pink again.]

[mamarosa]

Oh, I would have no problem with that, please let me know what you find. [she brings her hand to her mouth intending to break open her skin with her teeth, but she pauses] Do you have anything on hand to carry my blood, or would you rather we go to your office.

[bloodbrother]

Oh! Yes, later. I'll collect it later. [He waves a hand a bit.] And I'll use a needle and everything.

[mamarosa]

Make sure it is a sturdy needle, as trolls have rather sturdy skin, I would not want to break one of your needles.

[bloodbrother]

Yes, I read that. Thank you very much. [oh jeez was that rude? He suddenly gets flustered and fidgety]

[mamarosa]

Do not worry about it, if your needles cannot pierce my skin, I can open it myself.

[Guess who is on his break and has brought pizza!]

Sam! Hello! [He ran over to hug Sam.] Are you hungry?

[bloodbrother]

[turns away from a productive moment.] Thanks for thinking of me, but I won't be able to enjoy it. On your break? [He can't resist reaching over to ruffle up his hair.]

[babysage]

[Kotaro smiled at the hair ruffle and sat down on the floor to open the pizza box.] Can you not eat human food at all? [That would be awful! Kotaro didn't know there were some bloodlines that couldn't eat human food!] Did you remember to drink some blood today.

[Serious worried little brother stare]

[bloodbrother]

It's not that, I'm just not feeling particularly hungry right now. My break should be soon and I can take the leftovers to my office refrigerator for you.

And yes, I did have blood today.

[babysage]

[Kotaro grinned, he was glad. He would have been very sad for Sam if he couldn't eat human food at all!]

Good! [He tucks into the pizza] Have you had many customers?

[bloodbrother]

A few. Fortitude's headmistress came in earlier. [And he just sits nearby to hang out. What is working? Conversation is better]

[babysage]

[Kotaro spends most his time at work playing with the toys, they are the best workers.] Is she nice? I heard she was nicer than Day.

[bloodbrother]

Yes, she was quite pleasant. She even agreed to allow me to analyze her blood, since she's a troll. I'll be drawing a few small samples later from her. It'll let me know if the troll population is a viable source of blood, hopefully.

[babysage]

[Kotaro wrinkled his nose] Their blood smells funny but that is very nice of her! [He grins as he remembered something] Oh! [He fished the memory charm he had bought for Nephenee that morning.] I got Nephenee's charm!
