Summary: Dirk shows off some 21st century cinematic masterpieces.

The time has come. Seven o'clock on the dot and Dirk is standing at the front of the viewing room in the city library to one side of the screen which is currently tuned to static, remote control in one of his hands.

There's plenty of room for everyone who shows up. The accommodations are a bit more classroom-like than he'd have liked -- tables and chairs for everyone to sit at -- but scattered about are some snacks and drinks he's scavenged from the Fortitude cafeteria.

Sit down. Watch these films. There are ten of them, and Dirk can go all night.

Sits through about 30 minutes of it and he's starting to look pissed off. And he's not bothering with the poker face.] This is what you said was so important?

"It's okay. You're basically awake while you're asleep. I highly recommend it if you've got the cash to spare."

He just leaves it there on the menu for now. "Beats me. This is some high-level shit. At the time these films came out I doubt there was anyone who could actually appreciate them. But they still made their creator a very rich man."

Sure is. [ Dirk keeps his poker face up, but on the inside he's laughing hysterically. Lelouch's reaction is just too perfect. ]

This is nonsense. [Diethardt would have a field day with this though...] Plain and utter nonsense.

[This is one of those times that things don't go as he'd anticipated and he's actually at a loss for words for a moment.] You're not even going to attempt to defend it?

There's nothing to defend. The symbolism and hidden meanings are important, but they're not gonna mean anything if you're from another universe.

Let me guess: The stairs are meant to allude to a constant looming threat that the average populace has just come to assimilate into an average part of society by now, and has thus become blind to the danger. The viewership has become complacent, and the creator means to show them there's something to stand for. [Coming from someone that knows a few things about ridiculous symbolism]

"Why would you miss those?" She seems incredulous.

The empire within which I live is darwinistic and totalitarian. If there is to be any satire in the media, it must be extremely subtle. Though perhaps not quite this ridiculous.

Is it just Dirk or is Jade ditzier than normal right now? "Hey, don't say that. They were like my best horrible, terrible friends. Constantly whispering shit from the black depths of space and turning my dreams into nightmares. Wouldn't you miss 'em?"

We have our own source for symbolism and direct criticism. Zero is from my world. He hacks into broadcasting systems to ensure his message is delivered.

Yep. Alien invasion plus an apocalypse. [ At least the popcorn is good. Om nom. ] These movies are from the pre-diluvian era.
