Wouldn't a fake thief say that too? Or would they say they had seen it?

... I'm not sure, but something about that just doesn't feel right! But I'm kind of curious now!

... My point is, a thief wouldn't have any reason to not lie about it!

I thought the thief was supposed to say increasingly elaborate and fanciful things in order to distract the detective from their true purpose. At least, that's how it works on TV shows!

... The last time I heard anyone say weird elaborate things during a case, it was a pompous witness and not actually the real criminal.

I already know who the thief is, miss, and it's not you. At this point, I'm hoping they'll accept my offer instead of making this more of a pain for the both of us.
