[Feferi is sitting on her bed in the Conquest dorms, flicking at the bracelet around her wrist. She's got two charms attached to it that she didn't have before. Purple tear tracks stain her cheeks, and her voice is scratchy from crying.]

...be careful, Players and Weapons. It's possible to just disappear. Sollux Captor, my friend, not just a Weapon...he's not here anymore. I found a Memory Charm and an Upgrade on my pillow this morning.

[She flicks at the charms again.]

Idiot could have at least told me goodbye. Or told me how he was leaving. Or something. But just disappearing, leaving his things...a memory of his that it feels like I shouldn't have.

[She doesn't mean that.]

[Utena knocks and stands nervously at the door, rocking back and forth on her heels, doing arm stretches. Feferi didn't sound too good, so she's more interested in offering what awkward comfort she could than getting their Vowing done right then and there.]

[Utena crosses into the room. This actually looks like a girl's room. Huh. She sits down beside her.] Your friend's gone, huh?

Yeah. Disappeared without a trace.

[She holds up her wrist.]

So strange, having a memory that should be his.

[She puts her arm around Feferi's shoulders. Not in an I-am-macking-on-you way but in a sisterly kindof way. She's not hugely articulate about feelings, but on the level of sensing body language, she's pretty sensitive. Of course, if she flinches or looks uncomfortable, she'll pull her arm back.]

[That hug is appreciated, and Feferi settles in with a little sigh.]

It's a little complicated, but...he had a rivalry with another troll I know. He isn't here, but his name is Eridan. Eridan Ampora. They dueled twice, and the second time, Eridan won out. It blinded Sollux, but...that was all right. Sollux knew it was going to happen, so it was one less thing to be afraid of.

...trolls are weird.

[Silence descends for a bit as Utena tries to think of what to say to comfort her.]

That doesn't sound like good sportsmanship to me. But considering you're the only Troll I know, despite the grey skin and horns, you don't seem weird to me. I don't think of you as anything but another girl. [Probably not the heart of the matter, but Utena doesn't want her to think she harbors discriminatory thoughts.]

It wasn't the first time they had dueled. The first time, it was fair, and they wound up in a draw. The second time, Eridan had a stronger weapon. No one knew what it was capable of.

[And that gets Utena another hug.] Thank you. I don't want to be treated like anything special. I was the Heiress to the throne of my home back there, but I don't need any special treatment. It makes me happy, being treated like just a normal girl. It's all I really want.

That's now how a duel oughta be done. [Oh that is enough to just melt Utena's heart. She hugs Feferi back. She almost instinctively feels she should trust her...Wait. Remember what happened last time, Duelist Formerly Known As Prince? Remember how your protective instincts got played on and you were literally stabbed in the back? She pulls away after a few seconds.] Oh dang, it's late, I gotta finish my homework...

[Feferi senses that hesitation. She won't press too hard, but...]

You seem tense.

I'm fine. Really.

[She wants to go back but steels herself not to. Later she'll realize how odd that must seem: arriving right after she makes the post, giving her a hug, being kind, then abruptly making a flimsy excuse and leaving.]
