I would appreciate you reporting to the Prefect Building today at your earliest convenience. If you so desire, you may bring your Knight, although he will not be necessary.

[ the front door to the bungalow is unlocked when they arrive. ]

[Suzaku had met Lelouch in town, and they had went to Fortitude together, since Nanami had said Lelouch could bring him Suzaku didn't worry about trespassing. He was silent as they approached the prefect building.]

[It was fortunate that she had been agreeable to bringing Suzaku in the first place. It wasn't as though his presence would really make a difference, but there was a meaning to the gesture, or so he expected, that he didn't ignore for the sake of his pride.

But he seethed with a quiet, burning rage. His confusion had found clarity, and he's found a purpose for himself. He was wound up like a spring ready to snap at any moment.

But when they arrived, he simply tried the knob, and finding it unlocked, let himself in. Yes, he went through the door first. What has he got to lose here?]

[ The day or so of punishment and confinement to the mayor's mansion has calmed Nanami, and she's settled in - or swamped by, take your pick - a large, squishy armchair with a cup of tea and a book.

When they enter, she doesn't really need to glance up to check it's them, but she does anyway, just to be polite. For now, she's the acting head of household in the prefects' quarters. ]

Ah, Lelouch, Suzaku. Good morning. Please, have a seat.

[Suzaku followed right after, not bothering to tell Lelouch he should have gone first. He nodded politely at Nanami but did not sit down, he didn't speak either leaving that to Lelouch.]

[Lelouch didn't sit immediately. He needed a moment to stuff down the ridiculous urge to throttle this woman where she sat. But he soon took a seat across from her and to the side, crossed one leg over the other at the knee, and leaned his cheek against a couple knuckles.] Tell me, what kind of punishment does this system find appropriate for a prefect that murders one of her own students? [Nice icebreaker]

[ she pauses in pouring them both a cup of tea to consider this with all due seriousness. ]

I can't recall it has never been specified. I suppose your world is used to the death penalty, which is somewhat useless in this situation... Of course, if killing me would make you feel better, then by all means...

[Suzaku wondered as well, she seemed incredibly powerful, someone who would be difficult to control and hard to punish. There was no point though, in killing someone when they would just come back, so he ignored her suggestion. Still silent, watching her carefully in case she made any threatening moves.]

Killing you would serve me no purpose. [Stated plainly.] Why is it you've asked me here?

That is a pity. [ sigh. Well, anyway. She slides them a cup and saucer each. ]

I have two reasons. The first... Ah, you can count this as a punishment for me if you wish, the Dolorosa decided I should make reparations... [ she produces a memory charm from her sleeve, and holds it out. It's in a small jewellery bag, to prevent it from activating immediately upon contact with him. ] Don't misunderstand, I find this gesture a little empty, in truth. But perhaps you will remember something useful.

[Suzaku watched, not knowing what was in the bag, he watched Lelouch to gauge his reaction, pretty sure this was not a threat, but some sort of reparation like she had said.]

[He actually shifts from his rather deliberate pose to take it from her. He took a moment to open the pouch, and pinch the contents from the outside, so his skin still didn't make contact with it. After he looked it over for a moment, he stowed it back in the bag and the bag safely into the pocket of his uniform. He sat back again, and crossed his legs.] There must be something else. I'm sure this isn't the only reason you've asked us here.

[ his straightforward response makes her giggle quietly, the noise hidden by a sleeve held daintily over her face. They really are like the strategian and the sword she once relied on ]

Yes, the second reason. I am sure by this point that you hate me... or have at least entertained thoughts of disposing of me. After all, I am a monster that should not exist, who has no human feelings and cannot be controlled, is that not so? It is only natural. [ whoops, she's talking too much again. How rude. ] Hmm, well, put plainly... I feel your desire to destroy me matches well with my desire to be destroyed. Is there perhaps something more I can do to ensure you manage it properly?

[Suzaku's eyebrows raised at her words, he knew of course from speaking to her the day before her wish to die, and though he did not know her reasons could emphasise with her.

He stayed quiet still and watched Lelouch]

[Well, doesn't this request sound familiar? But his poker face remains neatly in place.] Isn't that asking quite a bit of someone you're already in debt to?

Not particularly. Think of it as a challenge... After all, you will not be able to go back to your world until I am dead. Is it so much to ask that it is done properly? [ she considers it a little more, sipping from her cup a few times, and then sighs once again. ]

I'm not very good at bargaining in this fashion... Would you tell me if there was anyone I could threaten, to convince you otherwise? That seems to be the appropriate method.

[A challange? Suzaku doubted that asking Lelouch for death was going to get her anywhere, his head started to hurt so he merely filed away the fact that they could not escape until she was dead.

His eyes hardened when she mentioned threatening, and he took a step forwards.]

[As if he would give her any ammunition like that. But that comment on not getting home with her alive hits on an interesting point. He raised a hand idly to signal Suzaku that he wasn't too concerned with her threats.] There is one thing that I will ask of you in exchange for assuring you of a permanent death: Cooperation. If you call yourself a monster, then I am the demon that could either show you mercy or ensure a long, agonizing existence.

[ a gentle, vague smile in Suzaku's direction as she notes his reaction, and then her expression smooths out and her head tilts. ] Cooperation? In what way?

[He stops at Lelouch's signal and stood glaring at Nanami whilst Lelouch spoke.]

Cooperation in the form of any and all information that I will need for us to escape this place. You will have my word that I will not attempt to extend your existence any longer than is necessary for me to do this. Since it's true, as you said, that death is inconsequential, I'm sure you have a vast array of tools available to you should you become suspect that I'm not holding up my portion.

I wonder about that... [ well, it's a good deal. She doesn't really care. ] Either way is good, I suppose. You understand that I am limited by the system in what I can tell you, naturally?

[Suzaku frowned, wondering why. He had assumed they were the ones who withheld the system, but if the system could control them in some way...]

No, but I can expect you to be more forthcoming with me than you would with other students. [Overall, this whole 'getting killed' thing seems to come up in his favor, strategically played.]

Yes, you could certainly expect that. [ she looks across at Suzaku again. ] Ah, your Knight seems to be confused... Was there something you wanted to ask, Suzaku?
