ROUND -1
This morning, the marks of ownership disappear from the bodies of every Weapon who was owned during the previous round. The woman from the introductory video appears on the Exaclan video screens across campus, and on all of the computer screens as well.
She doesn't look very happy.
"My, you weren't very enthusiastic this time, were you?" she says, frowning and waving one finger in disappointment. "That's no good. If you don't fight, you can't earn Tokens to buy your powers or your memories back! If you don't even have those, imagine how hard it'll be to earn Legend Fragments!"
She smiles; the shift from her previous expression is sudden and startling. "You know, if you hear the legend, you just might learn a few things!
"We didn't want to do this, but it looks like we're going to have to. Okay! From now on, Players, you can only go three days without fighting. After that, we'll start taking away one Token a day. And you want your Tokens, don't you?" She smiles even more widely, as though she has no idea why anyone might be upset at being forced into such a situation. "To get you all started, we've given you some free tokens! You already had three each, you know, and we've added seven more. That means you all have ten tokens, so visit a booth and get spending."
She pauses, and then snaps her fingers, "Ah, but only Players can do that, so if any of your Weapons want to buy something, you should do it for them, okay?
"I know you can do it! Believe in yourselves and each other, and you'll achieve utopia!
"Now, here are the Players for this round!"
The screen goes blank, and the following appears:
PLAYERS FOR ROUND -1:
Fletcher Tringham
Kevin Smith
Mei Chang
Meryl Silverburgh
Oichi
Suzaku Kururugi
Tsuki Aoi

It was hard not to think it cute, and Grenn assumed she understood the consequences... Still, it was a bit confusing.
"Why... I mean, why so excited?" Grenn didn't sound disapproving, though, just confused, and there was still a smile lurking at the edges of her mouth.
Then she blinked and looked away, embarrassed. That was the girl Gino had used as his first Weapon. Grenn hoped she didn't hold a grudge. One would have to excuse her for not recognizing Mei at first; she'd been rather busy both during and then after the fight.
no subject
"Hello again! Your name is Grenn, right?"
no subject
"I think... er, Mei?" She hoped she was right, names to faces were usually something she wasn't too bad at, but trying to get a delayed and supressed pain reaction under control wasn't conductive to remembering the people around you.
"You think you'll like better to be on the playing end?" There had been another pause, but this due to Grenn trying to come up with something to say. Luckily, discussing this seemed to be fitting, since Mei had already been a Weapon.

The second question drew a similar pause from her, though only long enough for her to look around and sum up the other 'students' here. "I think so. I've been training to defend myself for some years now." Despite being so, so very small. "And since I can't expect most people to know how to use my weapon, this side of the game should be far more fruitful."
no subject
"How they expect anyone to randomly be good at all sorts of weapons, though..." She'd only won against Gino first because he'd had no clue how to handle the throwing knives, and because she could dodge... and she'd only lasted for as long as she did when he'd got a melee weapon because she could use the shaft of the scythe to block with...
no subject
Though speaking of weapons!
"Have you found a Player yet, Miss Grenn?"
no subject
"Ah... no. Not yet." Grenn paused, and rallied her thoughts and for what she hoped was a smile. She wasn't sure why the question had unsettled her so much.
"If you'd be willing, I'm sure you'd do well with them." And she's rather sure. Of course, frisbees aren't throwing knives, but she's rather sure Mei could easily adapt do them.
no subject
That meant that Grenn must have something similar to her own weapon, if the older girl thought she would do well with them. How exciting!
no subject
"Thanks. And there's two of them, supposed to be tossed, but you can block with them." Grenn scratched the back of her neck, and wondered if the fact that these weapons were in fact holographic would make it so you learned to handle them faster? In reality, you did need more than just a few tries, but she felt rather sure she would have been able to handle Tougyu's scythe after the battle with Gino.
Which, logically, shouldn't be possible.

Mei was trying to imagine what these things could possibly look like. Shields? A discus? But enough wondering. She stepped over by Grenn and took one of her hands in both of her own.
"I, Mei, vow to own and protect you until loss or round change parts us!" There, a vow made, as weird as it might be to have a little girl vowing to 'own and protect' anyone. "Miss Grenn, do you have a surname? In case I need to write out one of those stupid permission slip things..."
no subject
"Ah, yes... Atair," she said with a slight smile. "That'd be nice, thank you." Because, well, in Grenn's mind, 'nice', was all it was. As of yet, nothing she couldn't do without had been forbidden.
"I think putting a use to the tokens would be good though..." Grenn trailed off, uncertain if she should put this decision... but why not. Mei would be the first one to use them anyway.
"Ability to other sort of upgrade?" One memory charm, one sort of upgrade. That'd still leave one or two tokens.
no subject
Think, think, think.
"I think you can get the upgrades yourself, but someone has to give you a memory charm?" She vaguely recalled that being said once, somewhere. "I can help you with that, too, if you want!"
no subject
"If I remember right, only players can use tokens, so I'd need you to buy both the charm, which I then have to give to someone else, and any upgrades." She paused and shrugged. "Since you're going to use my weapons first, I think it'd be fair if you get to choose what sort of upgrade."
Of course, had it been someone else, Grenn may not have offered to use her own tokens for an upgrade, but she felt rather sure it was all right.
want me to drop a post in the booth post noting what they get?
Seems like a good idea!
"Right."
