Summary: Dirk shows off some 21st century cinematic masterpieces.
Warnings: Horrible movies. Swearing from Striders. The usual.

The time has come. Seven o'clock on the dot and Dirk is standing at the front of the viewing room in the city library to one side of the screen which is currently tuned to static, remote control in one of his hands.

There's plenty of room for everyone who shows up. The accommodations are a bit more classroom-like than he'd have liked -- tables and chairs for everyone to sit at -- but scattered about are some snacks and drinks he's scavenged from the Fortitude cafeteria.

Sit down. Watch these films. There are ten of them, and Dirk can go all night.

They had a hand in shaping the world into the way it is today.

Not much of one, mind you, because nobody picked up on the subliminal messages or the heavily-filtered metaphors until it was too late. But still, a hand.

And my Bro made them. That's why we're watching them.

They disappear. Poor little guys.

[She is testing this! By running right up to the screen and... oh hey her shadow is on it.]

You're right! They do disappear! [She's now waving her arms obnoxiously in front of the screen WHY DO THE COLORS RUN FROM HER.]

Yeah, exactly. Now sit your ass down and don't ruin this for everyone.

[ He grabs a bag of Skittles and tosses it to her. ]

That man in the yellow shirt is back again, and he stays on the screen for some five minutes.

It then abruptly cuts to mercilessly edited footage from The Empire Strikes Back, although no one would recognize it as being from that.

Ein, too, has nothing to say about this avant-garde of avant-gardes.

[She's just about back to her seat when the bag hits her in the face.

Processing... processing...]

RAINBOWS. [OM NOM NOM. Screw the chair, she's laying on the floor to enjoy her rainbow candy. And rainbow movie. And oh god she's just about to get legitimately high off of all these colors.]

[BUT OH MAN. Jake is just going to go find a seat near Dirk and get right to watching. This is one of his favorites.]

[ Everything is one of Jake's favorites. But Dirk just smiles and hands over some popcorn. ]

I did make it pretty obvious.

[Oh yes, popcorn!! Jake will take a handful and start munching.]

Which one is this? I can't tell yet.

Not that it really matters, this one is The Moive.

partway through the first movie

[This. This was a magnificently awful thing, as terrible as Dirk had warned about and reminiscent to David of some of what he'd draw in his spare time. But it was more, it was so much worse in a way that couldn't be incidental and it all moved.

It also made zero sense. Which seemed appropriate, but he couldn't shake the feeling that he should understand it - the movie itself? or why it was how it was? If he'd just try-

-what was he thinking about. Oh, right, the movie. It was-

He felt the beginning of a headache coming on.]

[ In addition to the younger Dave, Dirk has also been interested in seeing how this other Dave reacts to the films. He glances over from time to time, never speaking up, just watching. ]

[If Dirk's watching David, then he should have noticed how David seems to be paying attention less and less until he's cycling between looking blank and looking confused.

Now? There's an awful lot of looking blank going on. Not even the Strider lineface kind; it's like he's barely mentally present.]

[ Yeah... That's a bit worrying. Dirk gets up from his seat and goes over to take a closer look. ]

You feeling okay?

[He hears Dirk, but it's as if Dirk is very far away. There's another layer there, a perfecting element to this entire situation, but where, why, why can't he grasp why-

-because the world is coated in fog and vanishing into blackness.

David's unconscious body slips out of the chair.]

[ Aw shit. Dirk catches David in time to keep him from hitting the floor. Puts a hand to his forehead -- he doesn't feel feverish, so what...

Are these movies just that bad? ]

So these were movies... Not really like theatre at all and all the colours made Shion's head hurt a bit. But he supposed they were good? He had nothing to compare them to anyways. He didn't understand what was going on, didn't Dirk say they were supposed to be a story?

But then again they were from Dave's world and he barely understood anything Dave said, so... these were probably cool or something. He sat smiling through them, trying to understand.

I don't want to live in any world shaped by these movies. [she reaches over to take more popcorn, eyes still never leaving the screen. It's like watching a train wreck through horrible filters]

[ He rushes over to their side and helps Dirk with David. ]

What happened?

[ p much this face throughout the first hour ]

[ He waves a hand in disgust. ]

This is absurd. They put milk in paper boxes. That makes for a poor container -- it will get soggy.

Eh.

[ He follows suit. You always eat popcorn with movies. ]

I don't know. He looked dizzy, and then he just fainted.

Is he epileptic? ...do you even know what that is?

Once the first one is finished, there's an intermission to let people take bathroom breaks and have a brief rest from the visual vomit.

Dirk glances over to Shion as he swaps the Moive out for the the Film in the DVD player. "Enjoying yourself?"

He turns to look at Jade. Uh.
