Characters: Jake, Jane, and DirkIt was too strange to call it all a dream. Usually when you wake up from a dream, you're fighting to remember the lucid details before they slip right through your fingers. No, this was kind of the opposite. As soon as Jake opened his eyes and blearily found himself awake and aware he was slammed with what he could only liken to gaining a memory charm.

Warnings: Sads about canon!deaths, crying boys, and kissing
Only this seemed so much more than just one silly memory. It was a great number of things accompanied by a growing headache that made him nearly cry out with pain.
He needed to stop collecting head injuries. Jade was going to have his hide.
Looking back, he probably should have paused to take some notes before even these details slipped beyond his memory, but he was far too distracted by one huge glaring problem pounding in the back of his mind. Jane.
Jane was run through by a bunch of sinister red sentient vines. Jane was laying dead on the ground before he was dragged off again. He needed to make sure she was all right here, he needed to get the freaking heck out of bed. What the hell was brobot doing here? Nevermind he had to find Jane ASAP. At least he could just keep repeating to himself that she was okay here, and he could try and stave back the fact that he was in tears back home. Fuck. Fuck.
He made a wild dash out of the infirmary, paused to gain his bearings, and then ran for the dorms.
Of course he was terribly confused when he found out she was no longer in the room she was supposed to be in, and instead was directed towards the prefect dorms. What? Okay maybe she was in their room. Right, that's a perfectly rational deduction, okay. Good. Go.
He practically tore the door off the hinges when he made it to his room.
...
Uh.

She was alive. She was okay. She--
It was like everything had caught up with him from his desperate run over here and all he could see was her laying there dead.
He made a poor attempt at returning the greeting, only to bring a hand up to cover his mouth because wow his voice was doing this funny unsteady thing. Haha, and now he couldn't see, shit. English, get it together, she's right there.

He glanced over at Jake. Well, he looked upset. "Sorry, bro. I wasn't trying to move in on your girl. I can explain, I swear." And he waved a hand to gesture Jake and Brobot into the room.
Brobot tossed Dirk's PDA to him. When Jane would think to check hers, there would be a message informing her Jake was awake.

"What is wrong with you two this morning?" Alright, that was a start on what to say. She wasn't sure what was going on- they both looked equally upset.
no subject
He came a few steps in the room and let the door shut behind him
"I'm sorry. I don't know what's happened exactly but I just- suddenly remember a whole fat lot about the events going on back home and none of them are really any good. Jane- Would it be out of line to ask to hug you?"
no subject
Not that he would mind hugging either of them right now. They were here and they were okay for now. Once they got back, though... Then what?
no subject
Only a split second more and she opens her arms to both of them. "Come here you knuckleheads, I guess a hug isn't too out of line."
no subject
Just. Do him a favor and ignore the sounds of mansobbing.

"Guys.." Oh, never mind, she started crying as well. "I can't fix anything if you don't tell me what is the matter."
no subject
He half debates with just not telling her but- somehow that seems wrong. What if they can find a way to prevent it. So he takes a deep breath.
"I saw you die."
no subject
"And I fucking got knocked out before I could do anything about it."
no subject
"I don't believe you." She manages to choke out. "You two must have been imagining this up. There is no way. I'm not dead where I'm at." She doesn't want to die, she's so afraid of death. "What could have killed me, what?"
no subject
"Stringy red lashings from the sky, I don't know what they were. But I saw it, Jane. So did Strider, we were both there. Why would we lie?" He pulled back a little to look at her.

When Jane says that Dirk has to tilt his head back and upward to look at the ceiling. It's not that he's about to cry, it's that...
it's that Jane is dead and he's unconscious and there's no one else around to bring her back and
it's that Roxy's in danger from the miles and her server player is dead and Dirk is unconscious and
it's that Dirk doesn't know what to do.
"Jake, did Lil Seb get you out safe?"
no subject
Jane is dead, Jane is dead? Everyone was relying on her. Everyone wanted her t come through. Everyone was counting on her....and apparently she screws it up. She just continues to cry, crying is the right thing to do because there isn't a thing they can do about her death right now.
no subject
He gives a wet sniff and looks up at Dirk.
"More or less. We made it through the transportation pad but one of the fucking monsters on my island attacked us mid-flight. I fell from frightfully high up and knocked my self bloody unconscious again."
no subject
"Fucking shit."
Deep breaths, Dirk. It's okay. This is a setback. Nothing more.
"All I gotta do is figure out a way to wake back up, and I can revive you. Then--" Shit, then what? What does he do about Jake being unconscious at such a critical moment?
no subject
"I'll be okay, now is not the time to panic guys. Now is the time to plan." Even she's still choking up as she tries to speak.
no subject
"Jane's right. We have time now, we need to rewrite this mess. No suitable adventure involves the death of anyone's friends."
no subject
"Yeah. It'll all come together. I've got a few ideas." He didn't have all the information he needed. What about Roxy? He'd have to go check on her -- that window was one of hers, right? So if he plugged it in... "It'll require some pretty quick action once we get back, but we can solve this. Leave it to me."
no subject
"Roxy isn't safe." Jane finally releases that from her thoughts. "After all of this time together here. We've forgotten Roxy! She is in danger just as much as we are."
