Thunderstorm (Attn: All)

As classes continue on Friday the weather gets continuously worse until teachers announce that the last class will be cancelled. Screens display the message that all students must report to their dorms but power outages and flickers render them mostly ineffectual. Prefects are instead sent out, armed with waterproofs to make sure all students make it back to their dorms.

Thunder crashes and lightning lights up the sky as the lights flicker and the wind gets steadily louder. Students are required to remain inside, prefects are sent round with snacks and all prepare themselves for a long, wet and windy afternoon.

Cheshire is not a fan of the rain, or the thunder, or the lightning, but he liked trees. He felt comfortable up there, even as he got soaked by the rain. Unfortunately, it will take a bit more than convincing to get him to come down and go inside- he's forgotten that important bit of information regarding tree-climbing and has managed to make it a problem at one of the worst times he could.

Suzaku had finished taking roll call but Cheshire was missing. He wasn't in a coma as far as anyone knew, and people had seen him before the storm hit. Suzaku left the dorms pulling his waterproof around him.

"Cheshire?" He called.

Not too far away, Yuka heard Suzaku calling. She was a bit surprised. Humans, as far as she knew, usually didn't like being out in the rain. (Nor most youkai, for that matter.) What could be bringing him outside now?

She picked up her parasol and stepped away from the tree. Frowning at the rainwater that had accumulated inside of it, she poured it out and put it over her shoulder so that it wouldn't get filled up again... but of course, she didn't open it up. That would keep the rain off her, and that would be no good.

A few moments later, she'd walked up to the prefect. "Is there something wrong?"

Yuka was another who had been missing, though Suzaku didn't know her he guessed this was the other missing conquest student. "I'm looking for Cheshire, and you. You should be inside." The rain was getting back, his waterproof was proving not enough protection.

"Oh? But it'd be a shame to miss out on such delicious rain..."

Yuka paused for a moment. She didn't know Suzaku, but he definitely looked like he wasn't enjoying the rain.

"... Do you need any help?"

Suzaku frowned, "You really should get back, our orders were to make sure all non prefects were safe inside the dormitory buildings."

Yuka blinked. "Rain is unsafe?" Then she shrugged and started heading back towards White.

...

... Aaand made an abrupt right turn once she was out of Suzaku's line of sight. She didn't think she'd stay out too much longer, but she wasn't quite satisfied yet.

The principle was simple enough. What the prefect didn't know wouldn't hurt her.

"Storms are." He watched her until she was out of sight and then continued searching for Cheshire.

Sorry! Plans ate me.

Cheshire meowed for attention. It sounded more like the mock of a meow than an actual meow, but it was a nervous one. Despite the sound, the cat is grinning as he calls, "What should be down is up!"

"And can it get down?" Suzaku still had no idea what this cat meant half the time, for all he knew this was another one of its games. "It's raining." He pointed out unnecessarily.

"It's not raining! It's stuck!" There was a slight growl to his voice, but he kept smiling. "Stuck as an accused in court!"

"Stuck?" Suzaku got closer, "Don't worry, I can climb."

[nocathere]

[Cheshire inches closer to the edge of the branch, closer to the trunk with all the grace of an unhappy cat.]

[Suzaku got closer too and began climbing, pulling him up the height of Cheshire.]

Cheshire reaches out to Suzaku, "No Bandersnatches out tonight?"

"No, none of those." Suzaku reached out to grab him and the moment he touched him had a revelation. So that's what cat fur felt like...

A moment later he was falling backwards out the tree, still holding Cheshire as his memory reset itself over and over again.

Suzaku hadn't been the only prefect to notice Cheshire's plight, but he had certainly been the fasted. By the time Flynn had reached the tree, the situation seemed to be totally under control.

Hahaha. Ha.

On the bright side, it meant he was in the perfect position to run forward and catch the both of them when Suzaku hazed out. The catching itself wasn't the problem - they were relatively light - but getting the other prefect out of his memory loop... He smiled awkwardly at Cheshire.

"Will you climb onto my shoulder for a moment?"

Suzaku didn't answer Cheshire or Flynn because he was too busy resetting. Every time he felt Cheshire's fur he remembered, and then forgot, and remembered, then forgot...

Why would Cheshire ever be easy to work with? He grinned back up at Flynn and oblidged just long enough to jump back down onto Suzaku. A moment was such an imprecise measurement.

Cheshire doesn't move because he's too busy figuring out what was wrong with Suzaku. "Forgot to stand?"
