Thunderstorm (Attn: All)

As classes continue on Friday the weather gets continuously worse until teachers announce that the last class will be cancelled. Screens display the message that all students must report to their dorms but power outages and flickers render them mostly ineffectual. Prefects are instead sent out, armed with waterproofs to make sure all students make it back to their dorms.

Thunder crashes and lightning lights up the sky as the lights flicker and the wind gets steadily louder. Students are required to remain inside, prefects are sent round with snacks and all prepare themselves for a long, wet and windy afternoon.

"It's a bit early in the year for thunderstorms where I come from. It's not unheard of, but the real nice ones like this don't usually come until summer starts." Sure, it was probably odd for him to speak of a violent storm like this in such affectionate tones. But he liked sitting in one of the big front windows of their house to watch the lightning. And usually it meant that the day after was going to be a really nice day, so he was sure to have plans with some people at the beach for then when the weather was in their favor.

He didn't really like summer much now, though. The nights were shorter and the hot air made the sun's rays even worse. He might have to actually be nocturnal when the time comes. That would make this fighting thing even harder than it already was.

"Hm," Golbez said simply, turning to glance out a window as a crack of lightning flashed.

It had been a while since he'd seen a storm like this, the averse weather right before his party's trek to the new moon notwithstanding. It was a bit nostalgic.

He smiled a bit. "My brother and I liked to watch the lightning. To be honest, I was scared of it when I was little. But my brother sat me down in the window to prove that it couldn't hurt me. Well. As long as I was inside, anyway." He had a nostalgic kind of smile on his face. "I don't mean to pry, but do you have any family at all?"

He just glanced over at Sam. "An uncle," he replied a bit uneasily. "My parents both died when I was young."

He nodded, looking a bit sympathetic. "I only met my extended family occasionally. My dad worked so much and he insisted that we only go to family functions as the four of us." He shrugged, but reached up to pat Golbez on his sizable shoulder. "That sucks. But sometimes the friends you surround yourself with can be better than your family. Found family, I think it's called?"

Golbez deftly side-stepped the shoulderpat before it could connect. "Yes, I suppose that's true as well." He wasn't sure he could count any of his acquaintances as something that close -- though for some reason, trying to think of Cecil and his family in that respect brought a fog to the forefront of his mind.

He awkwardly settled his arm back down into his pants pocket. "Sorry I'm getting all nostalgic and stuff. Like I'm an old man or something. I'm not exactly old enough in vampire terms to be longing for the good old days. They weren't even that good." He frowned a bit, involuntarily, and his eyes were drawn to the window for another impressive flash of lightning.

"It's quite all right. Far be it from me to tell you what you can and cannot reminisce about."

"Oh, I didn't mean it that way. But you're right." He smirked a bit. "I shouldn't hold you up, though. Since you have prefecty things to do."
