Poisons class.
Characters: Day and all of Conquest Students![Beginning] When students arrive they will find an apricot on the table in front of their stool. Day is stood at the front smiling faintly. Santana is near her, obviously the prefect had passed this class last time she was here and was now Day's assistant. She was a very skilled poisoner after all. Once everyone was settled Day stepped forward, taking a bite out of her own apricot.
Format: prose, action, anything goes
This log is: Party post, tag Day, tag each other. Feel free to tag any part of the class or all of them!
Location: The poisons classroom, which is really a science lab.
Summary: Lesson one: Herb identification. Day's poison lessons begin
Warnings: Poisons, frank talking about killing and death
"Welcome to Poisons class. As you know I am Day your headmistress and Santana here will be assisting me. In this class, it will come of no surprise to you," hopefully, some of this lot seemed a little dense, "that we will be learning the art of poison. Believe me it is an art, it's not just about killing. Though that is important, it is about how you kill. A quick working poison that hits in the night, making it look like they have died in their sleep, naturally; or a slow working poison that paralyses first, to strike fear into all that sees."
Day had never thought she would be a good teacher, but she had had a lot of practice and mainly repeated things that Morveer had told her over the years.
"I am not interested in arguments about how what I do is morally reprehensible; save it for ethics class. For this hour you are poisoners, outside the class you can cry about your morals and honour to your hearts content. If anyone has a problem with my class and wishes to withdraw we can settle it the old fashioned way, bring your weapons, or your player and challenge us to a Rakuen battle. If you win you get permission to skip." She grinned, moving her hand to tuck her hair behind her ear, to show off her upgrade rings.
"Today we will be learning about the raw materials and how to find them."
On the tables there were jars with a selection of herbs and fungi, there were also cards with simple descriptions, there were pictures on the other side, to check.
[Middle] The task was to pair up the correct jar with each card. Day was wandering round the class room checking on each students progress.
[End] Once everything was tidied away Day stood at the front again. "You each were given an apricot, eat it, it's delicious," she smiles, "Held inside the kernel is a poison called cyanide. Keep the kernel, keep it close. Get used to holding death in your hand. It's perfectly safe unless you are stupid enough to heat it until it bursts, or eat it. Bring them to class next week, do not forget.
Your homework is to search the campus, or the woods if you are a player or an owned weapon and find at least one herb or fungi we have learnt about today. Don't pick it," though if they did and poisoned themselves, well it would teach them to be careful. "Record what it is and where you found it."
With that she grinned again. "Dismissed." She's sticking around for a while though, in case anyone has questions.
OOC: Herb list
Fungi list
More fungi
That last link is on wikipedia, which will be blacked out soon for 24 hours, so the first two are probably more useful. Also if you know any herbs/fungi yourself feel free to have them be in the class as well!

The poisonous mushrooms, however, Lithuania simply has to enter the name and without even glancing at the rest of the card, he identifies perfectly. Luckily his lost mushroom memory only involves the edible ones.
Still, everything else is slow going as he attempts to copy down the words.]

[Lithuania brightens as he receives the sheets. This will make things a lot easier.]
Thank you, ma'am!

She had noted that he had been identifying the mushrooms quickly once the PDA had read the name to him.]
Is fungi something you are familiar with?
no subject
At home I'd gather mushrooms in the forests to eat. I can't remember which ones you're supposed to eat, though...

[Lithuania smiles.]
It's not too hard, if you know what to look for.

middle;
She doesn't really want to practice using these on anyone, but it's attend class, challenge - a fight she won't win - or lose out. She looks awfully pale, though, and not even the sugar in her apricot is helping get the color back in her complexion.]

[Feferi holds out her sketchbook, pointing to the drawing of a pale yellow oleander.]
Does this look too much like an apple blossom to you? I don't want to mix them up.
[Her voice was a touch shaky, but she finishes the apricot, turning the kernel in her hand as she speaks.]

How did you get interested in plants like this? I'll admit that I like plants, but I never thought of them like this?
[As she moves to sketching a mushroom.]
no subject
It wasn't really an interest that I consciously had [He voice is still bright and her smile doesn't fade] Morveer, that is my former master, took me in when I was a kid and taught me all I know.

Excuse me, do you have a moment?

[She doesn't mention the fact she's technically dead, it's not good conversation material really. She wonders at the interest though.] Do you have a history of familiarity with poisons?
no subject
I see. And, ah, not directly. I've read about them, of course, and... seen their usage, but I can't say I've ever poisoned anybody myself.

Now, I know you said you didn't want a discussion of ethics, but I can't help but wonder where you intend to find victims for this.
no subject
I guess you hadn't worked out that you can't truly die here huh?
no subject
That's very-- but how?

[She smiles and because she's been here long enough to understand a little of how the students who end up here often think she adds] If one of your friends dies here they just come back, they are not gone forever. Do you not think that is special?

I was as upset as you when I found this out yet [Though for different reasons, she would hazard] Yet it is but one of the strange things about this place.
How though, do you find immortality scary? Usually it is death that people fear, it is what makes them weak.
no subject
Maybe whatever human or other being designed this setup wasn't aware, but being beaten down to the point where a human would die, without ever actually getting out of anything, because you have a job to do? That's incredibly difficult.

[Estonia shakes her head, though, moving on to the other point of interest to her.] Are there even any side effects? Aside from the obvious major psychological ones?
no subject
She shrugged, "For those who died before they arrived here, that is their permanent status."
no subject
"I see. So it's just another trick of things here."

It's not a judgement, not really, just Estonia realizing who the teacher was and how to deal with her. The more you know!
"Well, thank you for the conversation. I'll leave you be now."
