You're falling, and you can't remember why. It's a sickening feeling that makes your insides lurch; the darkness and the vertigo combine, and all you can think of is a story you heard once, somewhere.

Ah, I remember now. It's... a simple story that everyone knows. A legend of a Princess, the Demon Lord who kidnapped her, and the Knight who fought to save her. The Demon Lord had kidnapped the Princess countless times, but every time the Knight bested his challenges and rescued the Princess. No matter what tricks and ploys the Demon Lord used, the Knight would always triumph in the end. This was because--

The world tilts on its axis one last time, and the dream slips from your mind as easily as it arrived. A new voice intrudes on your sleep. Mechanical, monotonous.

"Next stop: Rakuen City. This train terminates here. The next stop is Rakuen. All change." The train rocks steadily as it winds its way through white drifts of snow. Sunlight streams through the window, heating the air and making the seats almost uncomfortably warm. A puff of steam from the train winds its way lazily past the windows when the wind is right.

It's strangely difficult to shake off the sleep; the rhythm of the train seems to lull you back into slumber and the air is warm and heavy, making it hard to keep hold of a thought. Finally, though, the nausea settles, the last of the dream fades and you can take in your surroundings. And, perhaps more importantly, those around you in a similar state.

"We have arrived at Rakuen City. All passengers must leave the train. This train is terminating here. This is Rakuen."

[ She shakes her head. ] I don't think so. But I was asleep for a really long time, so he might have left before I woke up...

[ oh she should ask about her friends ] My best friends are missing. Dave, and John, and Rose. They... [ their faces are blurry in her mind; she can't remember ] I don't. Remember what they look like. But Dave types in red, and Rose in purple, and John in blue.

I was asleep too but I don't think he would've left me! [He shakes his head] I haven't seen many people yet. But I will look for you! What do you mean they type? On a computer?

[Dave, Rose and John, he would try and remember] My brother is called....

Erm.... [What was his brothers name? Kotaro screwed up his face thinking hard]

Well some people call him the Silver Blade, and others call him Kin Killer.

Yes, they all have pesterchum names and we talk to each other...

[ She nods. ] I'll ask people, okay? I would hate to lose my brother.

What's a pesterchum name? [He nodded at her, glad she knew how he felt. Losing your brother was scary, Kotaro was starting to feel really bad for the time he went to look for Mimiko, no wonder his brother had been so worried!]

I'll ask about your friends to! Do you have a brother as well?

It's a name that lets you talk to other people online.

I don't think so. I'm an only child.

Oh [He has no idea what online means but nods anyways, her other words concern him more] There was only you? Were you not really lonely?

A little. But I had my dog, and he took care of me.

You had a dog? [Kotarou grins again] When I lived with the princess I was friends with Grand Duke Bowwow he was a... [Wait what exactly was he? Kotarou frowned, he was being very forgetful today!]

Well he was an animal and a great friend, what was your dog called?

My dog's name was Bec, he was my best friend ever.

"Wow! Was he a big dog? My brother is my best friend though the Princess was my friend as well when she wasn't mad and now we live with Mimiko and she is my friend too!"

He was a really big dog, and kind of special too. He teleported.

He teleported? I thought only vampires could have powers like that. Was he a black blood dog? Do they even exist? I thought only humans could turn into black bloods. [He realises what he is saying and brings both hands up to his mouth] Oops I'm not meant to tell humans about vampires! [His brother was going to be so mad!]

I don't think we had vampires at home...he was a first guardian, he took care of the earth. And it's okay. I won't tell anybody.

"Wow! He sound really special!" Kotaro didn't know that the earth was taken care of by a dog, and this girl knew him! "Thank you! What's your name? Mine's Kotaro!"

"He is super duper special." Talking about Bec has made her cheer up considerably, and she grins. "My name's Jade. It's nice to meet you, Kotaro."

"It's nice to meet you too!" He sat down on the floor, his search set aside for the moment. "So was it just you and Bec? Did you have lots of fun adventures? Did you help him take care of the earth?"

"Yep! We adventured every day, and we'd take naps in the sun and go swimming in the ocean and explore the jungle..."

"There was a jungle? Did it have lots of animals in it? We never went swimming or napped in the sun because they hurt us, but it sounds really fun!" He grinned again.

"There were lots of wild animals! We had to be very careful, so they wouldn't attack us." But there was a more important question here. "Why did the sun hurt you?"

Kotaro shuffled forward so he could talk in a whisper, which was still probably heard by most of the carriage. "Because that's what the sun does to vampires, so we had to be really careful!"

"You're a vampire?" She gasped. "But I've never met a vampire before!

"Yep, but that's a secret too! So you can't tell anybody!" He smiled at her again, "Well now you've met me!"

"I won't tell anyone," she promised, very solemn. "Do you have any more questions about me?"

"Thank you!" Kotaro grinned, he always had questions, "What else did you and Bec do? Was it hot where you lived?"

"Well, we..." what did they do? "I don't really remember. But it was pretty hot! It never ever snowed."
