After tournament party

Characters: Everyone!
Format: Whatever your heart desires!
This log is: Open party log!
Location: Battle Arena
Summary: On Saturday afternoon after the train arrives there is a festival and a presentation of the tournament winners!
Warnings:
Saturday was sunny if a little cold but once again the battle arena was bursting with people. Unlike in the week though everyone was out on the arena field itself, stalls had been set up for games or silly competitions. More tents and stalls sold foods, some which might be familiar to those living in the schools and some that would not be.

At one end there was a stage set up where the six staff members sat, people mingled, ate and discussed the tournament until Dunleavy finally stood to address the crowd.

"I hope that everyone enjoyed the tournament. Today is to celebrate and to reward the winners. Everyone did very well, so please show your appreciation to all those that participated Players and Weapons both."

The townspeople cheered and clapped waving flags of the two schools. "All our winners are from Conquest so congratulations to Conquest for the victory." More cheering; on the stage Day looked smug but proud as well, proud of her students.

~

Once all the prizes had been given out the stage cleared and a small band entered. Dunleavy wished goodbye to the other staff members before retreating to her mansion. It was unfair to Dolorosa and Recette to expect them to watch her when they should be having fun and it really wasn't a celebration without music.

[Santana thinks about that] Well, before I came here I was at home and I was busy with cheerleading and singing competitions, as well as having a girlfriend and being a total bitch to everyone, to keep things real. Then I came here and I was a total bitch to everyone because I was pissed off, and we met and I've been driving you crazy ever since.

[affectionately] Ah, they are bound to rebel one way or another, children always do. Many feel trapped here, it is a miracle they have not caused more trouble.

There can always be a festival without music, it would not be cruel.
unflinchable: (good cheer)

He tries to hide his smile but can't. You must be really important there? That almost sounds like something Merlin would say to him while being cheeky.

"A King is always important to his kingdom, is he not?"

But Ein is being serious so it's rude to be smiling. He hardens his expression, "I'm sure your friends will manage until your return."
unflinchable: (defensive)

He can imagine Morgana fighting with knitting needles and being very scary about it. Arthur holds his hands up defensively, it's not every day a female talks to him like that. That may be one of the things he misses about Morgana, she would always stand up to him even if it goes against protocol.

"I believe that, my" he pauses, not sure what to call Morgana, and frowns, "A girl from my past was skilled with a sword, and remained as such even without proper training. I do not know where you are from, but where I am from it is not customary for females to fight. I did not mean to offend your honor, forgive me."

"Probably, it's incredible though." Merlin grins again, in contrary to Arthur he likes this odd technology, it's like magic but not.

Of course he was trying not to think about magic, or the fact Arthur knew he had it or the fact that he didn't have it at the moment and the hole it left inside him was huge.

"About thirty altogether, what do we need to do?"

"You would find a child's toy incredible," he says, half laughing at his manservant's amazement.

Arthur doesn't think about magic, or when he finds himself thinking about magic he'll quickly think about something else, like how to train his knights when he returns. Thinking about the technology of the town always leads back to magic, and Merlin, and a hint of betrayal. No matter how familiar things were between them, the hint of betrayal was still there, compounded with every person.

"Only thirty?" he scoffs, "It'll do. I was hoping you would be more competent than that but it seems I overestimated you. Give me fourteen of your Raks so we can purchase a link charm," he side eyes him, "Have you read the rule book?" That was his way of asking do you know what a link charm does.

"When you have enough Raks again, you will purchase a memory charm, you not knowing your name, or my name, is starting to grate on my nerves."

"Neither have I!" He told her, though the idea she had been alone before here was sad. He was glad that she could be round people now. "It is fun!"

"Yeah, I guess so... I've never met a king before."

"They're tough, but... one of them just died."

Yeah, Kevin's starting to sense Arthur's frustration with the city. He supposes it must be hard to adapt, coming from a completely different time period. Even Kevin had a little bit of confusion with the holographic technology the battle system uses but at the very least he knew how to operate a phone and a computer. Arthur doesn't seem to have even that.

Still, just because he understands what the guy is going through doesn't mean he knows how to be mature about it. (Kid's only twelve after all.) So when Arthur sneers at him, it gets his hackles up. Enough for him to be a little bit nasty.

"So that makes you the head honcho. Got a question for you: didn't you have a better place to stick a sword besides a rock?"
babysage: (wow!)

Great! [He skips towards the game and pays two raks, enough for ten throws each!] You go first!
secretlyuseful: (errrrrrrm)

[personal profile] secretlyuseful 2012-06-19 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
He had thought thirty raks had been good seeing as he hadn't been a Player. But of course Arthur would think it not good enough. He opened his bag and took out fourteen raks and handed them over. He had read the book and he was surprised that Arthur wanted such a charm.

As well as sounding like magic; though it was technology Merlin knew that, it was very... permanent.

He supposed he should be glad, this was the very opposite of sending him away. He pulled a face at the final command, "Getting on your nerves? It's driving me crazy, my brain deciding to blank out parts of conversation because people call me by my name. Not to mention the fact it's really hard to talk to people without using names!"

Excuse you, the stone was a very safe place to keep the sword, so was the lake it was in before that. Except, you know, Arthur doesn't know about any of that. He hasn't exactly pulled Excalibur out of the stone yet. That's a few episodes away.

"Being the king does, in fact, make me the head. But who in their right mind would put a sword in a rock?"

Merlin, that's who.
unflinchable: (how to proceed)

[personal profile] unflinchable 2012-06-19 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well now you have," he says proudly.

Arthur frowns, "I am sorry for your loss."
unflinchable: (Uther - not normal)

[personal profile] unflinchable 2012-06-19 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
It would never be enough for Arthur. Arthur wasn't pleased with his hundred Raks either, especially since after he bought all his upgrades (it is important to have a strong weapon, after all) he didn't have enough left over for the link charm or the memory charm for Merlin. Even if he did sort of enjoy the expression on Merlin's face every time Arthur said his name, there was something unnerving about Merlin using his title all the time to address him.

He nods once, "Can't have you wandering off on me and getting yourself in trouble, this is the best option," and the easiest way to keep an eye on him, no matter how permanent.

Arthur listens patiently all throughout Merlin's little rant, he finds it kind of humorous to be honest. He's so frustrated over it Arthur is expecting him to have a tantrum like a child, "Are you quite done yet? If you would like to purchase the memory charm first we can do so, but I imagine the link charm is more useful for you now as you're probably even more useless now without your magic and with this I can protect you even if you are stupidly in a different school!"

He pauses, maybe he said too much.
secretlyuseful: (thoughtful)

[personal profile] secretlyuseful 2012-06-19 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Well when he put it like that... Merlin frowned, he was not some kid that needed watching all the time. But he knew refusing would be widening the gap between them, giving Arthur less reason to trust him. Doing this would show Merlin had nothing to hide, no reason why they shouldn't be linked.

And really there wasn't. His face was shadowed with sadness at the comment about not having his magic. It was true... he was completely useless without his magic, he wouldn't be able to protect Arthur if anything happened... But perhaps his weapon could even if it were a book and therefore not all that useful...

"No we can get the link charm first... It's probably for the best." No comment about Arthur protecting him, because Merlin will be protecting him right back.
unflinchable: (come with me)

[personal profile] unflinchable 2012-06-19 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Except Merlin was some kid that needed watching after, or at least Arthur thought so. No matter how powerful Merlin proved himself to be, Arthur couldn't see Merlin as a threat, just someone who needed to be protected. Might as well get used to it, Merlin. Luckily, though, Arthur didn't think that Merlin wanting a memory charm before a link charm was anything to be concerned about. He could imagine the frustration of not knowing his name and the disadvantage it put him in.

Talking about his magic was awkward. Perhaps it was made more awkward since Merlin no longer had it and Arthur couldn't experience it for himself. Once upon a time, you had magic and I didn't know and then you lost it and now I know. It was weird.

"I knew you'd come to your senses, now cheer up. When we have enough Raks we'll buy you a memory charm right away," he talks about Raks like they're sharing them, "Then you'll finally know who I am but by then you're stuck with me."

"Thanks."

"Which school are you in?"
