Conquest Round Four

As in previous weeks there are announcements on all the screens, "Please report to the lobby at 12 noon for assembly." If you're not there on time Santana will gather you up and unless you are new she will not be patient.

Even if you are new she probably wont be that patient. Day is once again smiling and that is good news all round really. She is stood on the podium eating a cookie that was probably from Red Day. When everyone is gathered she waits for them to fall silent.

"Well, I am glad you all took our little chat last week to heart. I am pleased to announce that Conquest is once again the winner." Proving that Day's method of headmistressing was obviously far superior to Dolorosa's. "Though a couple of you," and here America and Dirk would get headaches, nothing as bad as what she dealt out last week though, "Thought that fighting was beneath you, the rest of you did well. We had one Conquest only battle," the battle records appear on the screen. "Between Karkat Vantas and Aisha Clanclan, congratulations Karkat for winning."

"Against Fortitude we won four out of five battles, an excellent score. Showing that we are indeed the superior school, congratulations to Nephenee who beat Kamui, Sis Strider who beat Shion, Karkat Vantas who beat Shion and Aisha Clanclan who beat Shion."

She took a bite of cookie and grinned again, "Also well done to Sis for winning the round. You all fought well and I hope that you keep up the good work this next round. Keep on winning and show Fortitude that we are indeed better in every single way."

She ate some more, "I would also like to announce that two of our number became prefects this week, Flynn Scifo and Gino Weinberg, however they due to unfortunate circumstances they are both indisposed at the moment." Meaning they were both unconscious in the infirmary, it was a thing that happened sometimes, Day didn't know why.

"Now for those who will bring us to victory once again," a list of names came up on the screen behind her and she read them out.

"Samuel," he said, stopping and turning to face the vampire. "Would you mind being one of my weapons again this round? If you haven't found somebody else yet, that is."

He smiled a bit and nodded. "I was looking for you for just that reason. I don't mind if you need to use me, I need some money to pay Kotaro back," he added sheepishly. He shrugged. "If I'm suitable, anyway."

He wasn't sure what to make of that remark, but he shook his head. "You are. When I lost to Aqua, it was solely a matter of my own skill. I don't intend to lose again."

He glanced down at each of Sam's hands in turn; just what counted as a "vow", how much did they have to say? "In any case, I'll accept you as a weapon."

"Then I'll take you as a player," It seemed silly to say, but it seemed to have done the trick. A sword appeared on Sam's hand. "I'm the only one from the first group that hasn't been a Player yet. I can't say I'm complaining, though. I'm not much of a fighter."

"Then I hope for your sake it stays that way." That was lucky for Sam; it looked like even children were forced to become Players in this game.

"I'll let you know if I need use of your weapon. If there's nothing else...?"

Suddenly he felt a little awkward, like he was keeping him from something. "Ah, no, that's it. Even if it's not a battle, I still owe you a favor, so if you need anything at all, let me know. I'll try to help you as best I can."

Actually, Golbez was fine with the way things were. He didn't like making anyone feel as though they had to go out of their way for him. Still, Sam seemed the type who would insist. "If I have need of your services as a doctor, then, I'll inform you."

He nodded. He didn't push any further, because this guy's biceps were the size of Sam's head. "Great! I'll talk to you soon, then."
