On the platform: Meet the new characters!

As you all crowd onto the platform and peer through the thick fog that chills the air, you are met by four girls and five boys. One of the girls is a somewhat humanoid grey-skinned, finned alien, but the rest all seem human. All nine are in uniforms that would match if not for the colour differences - skirts and trousers, waistcoats, and light summer shirts that seem totally inappropriate for the dense fog. They're all sodden and cold, and most are irritable. Each has a beret with a crest pinned to the front - three depicting a shield on green, the other six a sword on red.

At the first lull in the chatter, one sickly-pale, shield-crested girl speaks up, cutting through your conversations with her cold, soft voice.

"Attention, please."

She explains that the nine of them are the current prefects of Rakuen, representing the two schools on the island. Nanami, she points to herself, Yuri and Lelouch of Fortitude; and Santana, Flynn, Feferi, Gino, Nephenee and Kevin of Conquest. She doesn't care to explain why the prefects in red and white outnumber those in green and black two to one.

Santana interrupts, "Yeah, yeah. Look, come over when your name is called so we can all get inside." They all move to stand in two groups some distance away from each other, and the two that spoke read off names from their clipboards.

Lusy? [He just spelled it like it sounded, okay? And dang, this is all so fascinating. He definitely wants to learn more about this whole other planet.]

[mamarosa]

Oh no, it is L-U-S-U-S and the plural form is L-U-S-I-I. I would be happy to tell you more, I teach a class about my planet.

[mutesician]

[School again? Well, it's learning about a whole new planet! But wait...he thinks he remembers something in the manual.]

I think I'm a teacher too. So I don't know if I can go to your class.

[mamarosa]

What are you teaching, I'm sorry, I don't believe I caught your name. But if you would like, I can teach you about Alternia during our free time.

[mutesician]

Music. Louis. [He writes short answers, since he's done quite a bit of writing elsewhere. But the offer makes him perk up.]

That would be nice.

[mamarosa]

Music is a wonderful subject! Do you play many instruments?

[mutesician]

Just trumpet. [He also uses his right foot to hold up said trumpet. However, he immediately experiences a headache right after, and drops it. It bounces a few times on its string before dangling on his neck again.]

[mamarosa]

Have you forgotten how to play? When you regain that memory you will have to play something for me. [a kind smile]

[mutesician]

[Now he's curious. A vague stirring of the dream he had on the train returns to him.]

I can regain my memory? [That would be good, at least.]

[mamarosa]

Yes, it costs you 40 Raks but you can regain it.

[mutesician]

[The words "costs" and "40" give him another headache. Why can't he remember the context of those things anymore?]

Fortee?

[mamarosa]

F-O-R-T-Y, the equivalent of four tens, if you do not understand money then I, one of the students, or Recette the shopkeeper, can help you.

[mutesician]

[All those words make his headache worse.]

I still don't understand. But thank you. [He can vaguely recall some concept of money, but the actual knowledge is gone from his brain.]

[mamarosa]

Perhaps you have forgotten that too, do not fear, many will be around to assist you.

[mutesician]

[That's good. But it still seems so unfair to him...]

Does everyone forget important things?

[mamarosa]

Oh yes, everyone does, but it is up to you to get your precious memories back.

[mutesician]

[He nods. Okay, maybe it's not that unfair then. However, another thought comes to him.]

Can I choose?

[mamarosa]

Sadly no, memories are returned at random.
