my name's john egbert, i'm new which is why most of you don't know me, heh.
i know it's probably silly because dave would've found someone, but is there anyone here who knows american sign language?
it's just that i'm deaf, so it's the easiest way for me to communicate, and so far dave's the only person who knows how to do it.

my speech therapist helped me with that and lip-reading.

[Dave shakes his head. Fuck if he knew where his roommate was.]

[ John comes in and shoves his hands in his pockets, pursing his lips thoughtfully.

Remembering all the little vibration and tongue things for speaking is hard, since he doesn't do it often, but dammit, he's going to. ]

I s-sound really... stupid.

[ It's a little lispy, the p sounds a bit like a b, and it's got an odd quality to it since he can't hear himself, and the volume fluctuates a little... but it's recognizable as words!

And he's totally blushing a little because he knows he sounds weird. ]

[Dave just stands there for a minute. He's honestly surprised the other talked to him. And...he honestly isn't sure how to respond but stand there in utter shock and stare at the other.

And he might be a little embarrassed because John was willing to be a little uncomfortable and say something to him.

Congratulations.

Dave Strider is more speechless then he already was.]

[ After a moment of awkwardly standing there, John lets out a bit of a huff of air. ]

<<'Please say something? I know I sound weird. I mean, I'm pretty sure. I can't tell from first-hand experience, but...'>>

[He runs a hand through his hair, messily signing back.]

<<'I just didn't expect that. I guess. But hey, if talking makes you awkward, I guess I can do something in return. Not sure what, but shoot, fairs fair?'>> [Not that he knows what he could do in return for John talking. He certainly couldn't talk back or anything.]
